Quick Cutlass questions
« on: June 03, 2011, 03:01:19 PM »
Just a few basic Cutlass questions...
1) What are the available races to play in the game?
2) are there stat differences for each race of pirates?
3) How many figs on each side?
4) can it handle more than 2 players?
5) Are there specific 'jobs' for crews?  i.e. Cook, Doctor, Navigator, etc...
6) How does it stack up against LotHS or Pirates!?  Better/worse?
No one on the west coast carries this game, so I have not had the chance to flip through it yet...
Thanks!

1) Currently you have the choice of 7 different faction types to choose from:
Royal Navy, Pirates, Privateers, Undead, Orcs and Goblins, Dwarfs, Elves.

2) Each has different strengths in different areas represented by their stats and skills they can acquire.
You must decide whether your crew wants to be famous or infamous at the start. Depending on your actions during each game your crew will become more famous or infamous! You start with $500 and can purchase crew members, weapons as you choose. Allowing you from the start to go for a small well armed crew, or weaker with greater numbers.

3) A starting crew will be near 6 or 8 figures depending on cost, and you can have upwards of 30 so long as you can continue to pay them.

4) Yes

5) Cooks, doctors and such fall into the "Special" character category, they can be "hired" after your first game.

6) As I have not yet played Cutlass! I can't say, it has more of a "Fantasy" feel to it with the added races, and the random initiative high jack could become one sided. where as LotHS has a specific player turn. as for Pirates! there are NO rules for ships in Cutlass!

Hope this helps, if I get a game in, I'll report back.

Zombies you can outrun - the mistakes of your fellow Heroes you cannot.

I would say that it truely are two different games. The game mechanics are very different, even though getting a crew is about the same and some other simularities that are unavoidable in this kind of gaming. Buying one game doesnt necerarely mean that you automatically exclude the other. Even though... I got to admit, that I was hoping for Cutlass to be the One Pirate Game... its not.

Personally I have been waiting eagerly for Cutlass, however it will not stop me from playing Legends of the High Seas or Mordheim for that matter.
We have been collecting miniatures/ships and whatnots to be able to play all three games, using the same bases and such to be able to use our miniatures without problems in what ever system we are using.
Tintin - Pulp Adventures in a orderly fashion
Gallows Falls - Western Village
Eisende - Mordheim costal village WIP
Rome - SPQR & Hail Caesar
