Jungle Girl Gallery
« on: June 06, 2011, 04:29:18 AM »
Bit of Pulp inspiration on this website, Jungle Girl Gallery:

http://www.art4comics.com/junglegallery.htm

[edit: decided to collapse these links into the first post]

Jungle Call: A Roster of Jungle Girls:

http://www.art4comics.com/jgdir.htm

3 or 4 of the links seem broken, but there is a lot of linked material there.

Here is the wiki article Jungle Girl (stock character), but for some reason that end parenthesis at the end won't load as part of the link. Just click on "Jungle Girl (stock character)" when you get to this link and wiki will take you to the actual article and list of jungle girls. There are many good links in that list:

Jungle Girl and the Slaver 1957 --- hmm, didn't realize there was a second movie featuring Liane, Jungle Goddess. Guess that's no great loss, considering that the review I read says this movie was nowhere near as good as the first one.  Oh well, here's a nice long clip:

Not exactly jungle girl in the sense of a female version of Tarzan, but there seems to be a bit of jungle action in the 1984 film The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik Yak. Seems from this clip, and from a few others on youtube, that there is some Pulp jungle potential in this movie:

What's a good pulp movie without a jailbreak scene? More from the 1984 Perils of Gwendolyn in the Land of the Yik Yak:

Does Pulp action fighting get any cooler than this? Again from the 1984 The Perils of Gwendolyn in the Land of the Yik Yak:

Excellent! I prefer the old grainy black and white, the captured the 1930s pulp ambiance so much better back then  ;)

And the leopard skin thigh revealing dress helps too... ;)

Somehow, I missed this jungle goddess, Leena: Queen of the Jungle:

By the way, notwithstanding my cynicism about jungles crawling with white women in abbreviated costumes, according to films of the 30's, 40's, and 50's, there really were mobs of them. Found a film clip that I can't link on this German forum because of the brief appearance of a certain illegal symbol (you all know the one I mean).  So I'm just going to give you the title of the clip on youtube, so that you can plug the words into the youtube search function yourselves:

I guess not every girl in the jungle has to wear leopard skin. This one from a Jungle Jim episode is a good inspiration for that Dorothy Lamour figure in the Pulp Figures Castaways pack:

(the embedded video was disabled on that one, will have to look for it again on YouTube)

Hmmm, then again, a leopard skin outfit can make a discussion of insurance much more interesting:

1935, and the thing I can't figure out is why Joan of the Jungle is dressing up in a typical safari outfit when there is a perfectly good leopard skin hanging on the wall behind her.  Sheesh! I guess not everything in these old jungle flicks makes sense:
