This evening on the phone my friend "Red Ed" suggested that I include some "real jungle girls" in this thread.  The first one on my mind was, of course, Dian Fossey, the woman who gave her life in 1985 attempting to defend the mountain gorillas.  Here is a slide show tribute to here, with an excellent musical soundtrack:

Naturally, Jane Goddall was the second "real jungle girl" that I thought about:

Dschungelkind - Wow! This is a totally beautiful looking movie! Too bad I don't understand the German. Oh well, there's a lot of people here on LAF who speak German, so I'm posting the clip:

One of my personal favorites is anthropologist/primatologist Dr. Shirley C. Strum. She wrote a book named "Almost Human" that I read when I was an anthropology/geography undergraduate, and it is one of the most profound books that I have ever read. She also appeared in National Geographic in an article about moving the "Pumphouse Gang," a troop of baboons that were becoming pests. She was the third "real jungle girl" that I thought of when my friend "Red Ed" suggested that I include some of those in this thread.  Her particular relevance is her observations that indicate that female dominance hierarchies among savannah baboons are more permanent than dominance among males, and the female hierarchies form the backbone of the savannah baboon troop and hold it together.  Her studies of aggression are important.  She lives part time in Kenya.

1959 Das Indish Grabmal (The Indian Tomb, aka The Tomb of Love), staring Deborah Paget. She doesn't play the classic jungle girl, unless a native temple dancer is one of the various archetypes. However, this is set in India, which has a lot of jungles. And jungles are full of snakes. Perhaps a Pulp scenario might include the heroine having to dance her way past a cobra? So, for inspiration, the famous cobra dance scene:

1951 remake of Bird of Paradise, just to continue for a bit with the "native girl" archetype. This is a long ten minute film clip that is a little slow. Deborah Paget doesn't quite scorch the screen in her dance scene the way Delores del Rio did in the 1932 version, but Paget's beauty is heart stopping!

Dorothy Lamour, "The Queen of a Hollywood Isle."  This is a clip from one of her movies. Not sure what year this is. She does a great musical spoof on the whole Hollywood archetype of the island princess:
