Mengil Manhide's Manflayers (vintage) [PICS]
« on: June 14, 2011, 01:39:32 PM »
My second commission for Phreedh were the old (3rd edition) Mengil Manhide's Manflayers, a rogue band of Dark Elves. As you can see I settled on several different bright colours to set off against the black and give them a colourful look. It was a daring enterprise but I think it paid off in the end. They are all wearing human skins (note how the female elves wear women's skins!) which I think it a very nice touch. I think these models are lovely and they were a lot of fun to paint, even if they took a bit more time than the dwarfs.

Bases will be finished by Phreedh himself and I hope he will also provide us with some new photographs in a scenic setting after he does (you have a lot of basing ahead of you ;))

Anyway, I hope you like these and please tell me what you think of the colour scheme!  8)

Hey, I'm really nostalgic about those, I guess they were one of the first blisters I bought as I was 12. Your paintjob really makes them stand out. Great work!

They all look crap and you should strip and redo them, no chance in hell I'm accepting those!

Or wait... I love them!  :-* Looking forward to do the basing. One of few painting things I can do while keeping my mrs company. =D

Lovely paintjobs, though, Pil and great colours especially the shields.

At first I was really sceptical about them not being in a uniform colour scheme, but over time I've really come to like them. I tend to return to the pics every now and then. =D Pil, once again - smashing job!

Regarding the manhides, I think they're a great touch on these guys. Goes to show how GW in the good old days could depict evil and savagery without resorting to chaos emblems, skulls and spikes.

I'm glad you like the colours in the end!  8)

To be fair the current set of Manflayers available (admittedly in the collectors' range) also has human skins:

VERY WELL DONE! The pastel shades suit the subjects nicely; until you mentioned it, I hadn't noticed the gender specific skins...PETA would approve.
I had done up the newer Dogs of War Mengil & Co. as a commission in Kiss colors...seemed suitably kinky.

Awesome I love the different colors for each of the elves.  Excellent details.  Great inspiration. Great job.

Another great job.  Not my favourite minis by a long way but they have come out really well.  Would have liked a close up of the 2nd right front row one.

Really nice. Even more so as it is so difficult to paint a unit in different colours but still keep it cohesive. Excellent work.

Only Real Elves wear pink!  lol

Nice idea Pil and it works well - the unit looks great! 8)

Those cloaks are really quite sinister too.

So Phreedh what have you got planned - some kind of Battle Royale between all these great Regiments of Renown you keep materialising?  >:D

Sort of =) They're for pick up and play skirmish games, mainly. Or well... their main purpose is to reside in my collection. =D

Haha - what else!

The Battle Royale thing would be cool though - 4 to 6 players, each with a regiment to command - last man/orc/elf/ogre/dwarf/etc standing.

Perhaps some kind of big gladiatorial arena to play in or hill to hold...  :D

Reckon my Ruglud's Boyz could take your either your pointy eared gits or your drunken stunties anyday!  ;)

Which reminds me - must rescue my Golgfag's Ogres champion from his dettol bath and paint him up...
