Representing dogs
« on: June 16, 2011, 04:12:35 AM »
So I grabbed the Mastiffs pack from Warlord Games to represent an old moutain man and his dogs:

The mountain man can be an character, agent or civilian if need be, but I was thinking he'd be better as a maniac for the lurkers.

Now what to do about the dogs?

As a Lurker player, they could be cultists with an extra point of movement and a club to represent the mauling.  Or give them sprint instead of movement.

I guess it would work as the Threshold player to have them simply be civlians.

Any other thoughts?

Dogs are included in the Shocking Tales vol 1 expansion, I was very close of ordering those very same models myself a week ago but figured I should reduce the amount of unpainted models I have at home first.

Those are very nice dogs!! I have used Vendel Mastiffs, they are very similar to those by Warlord Games. They are good companions for my farmer.

I like your idea of using the dog handler to represent a maniac.

You could use the dogs as either "dogs" from SA-STOMAM #1 (Threshold) or as "zombie dogs" from SA-STOMAM #2 (Lurkers).  Using the handler as a maniac idea is great too.

I don't really have any plans to get the expansions until I've played with most of the stuff in the first book.  It's cool that dogs are there for when I do finally get it.

I guess they'll just be civlians/cultists with clubs for now.

Great post. Not only had I been looking for some mastiff models after reading einarolafson's older scene of horror post, a vignette I am still in *love* with, but I had made an early post myself entitled- "So I Married an Axe Murderer?"- trying to composite all the sources for axe wielding loon miniatures and their proxies. You've found a good one here, and have single handled killed two of my birds with one stone. Thanks guys.

I have no ideas for dogs in SA, but thank you for pointing out those lovely mastiffs from Warlord! I have a Warlord order for ECW/TYW stuff pencilled in for after Canada Post functions again, will have to add those doggies to the list!

(so that they can die in our pulp games, because I don't think I've ever run or played in a pulp game where the dog survives. The SPCA would be concerned, were they not all pewter!)

Rent the pulpy Post-Apoc comedy titled, "A Boy and his Dog", and start figuring out tremendous feats of "courage" to keep those man's best friends alive.

Trust me, you'll love it. Gritty and witty.
