Hausa Fulani Part II
« on: June 18, 2011, 08:15:04 PM »
Right,

After a noticable delay here are some photos of my Hausa-Fulani infantry in progress.  Many thanks to all for the images & info provided as a result of my earlier request.

The first two photos are of the 'elite' skirmishers.  (Everything is based for the Death in the Dark Continent) rules.  All figures were converted from the Foundry Zanzibaris.  Most have heads from the Foundry uniformed askari.  Subsequent research, and many of the useful photos now leads me to believe that the clothing isn't quite right.  It's conservative enough for these guys, but doesn't have enough layers.

Foundry askari head on the left.  The figure on the right originally had one of the low crowned, East African style fez/caps.  I built this up with putty to match the size of the other caps.  Then I shaved off the Zanzibari beard with an X-acto blade.

More eliite skirmishers.  The cap on the left is another 'build up' the one on the right is another askari head.

Slave Soldiers.  The one in the middle has the original Zanzibari head, with another X-acto shave.  The ones on the left & right have bare heads from various Foundry generic native figures.  Helpful photos acquired after the fact would indicate that these chaps are far too well dressed for Hausa Fulani slave soldiers.  And the two photos below have more slave soldiers.  Those with hats/turbans are original heads with X-acto shaves.  Those bare headed have new heads from the previously mentioned generic native types.

With luck, more photos to come as the army (eventually) expands.

Thanks,

I suspect that the heavily ornate cavalry will be the most difficult part.

Chums in 'The Bengal Club' keep asking why I'm building this army... to go up against machine guns.  Dunno, suppose it has the same appeal as Ancient Persians, or perhaps the Burgundians?

Regards,
MW
