scale?

whats the best toy car scale for 28mm? 1/64th or 1/43? im after a couple of land rovers you see, cheers

I have primarily 1/43 scale cars. But that varies greatly even from the same manufacturer. I would suggest taking a miniature with you to the store or use some other scale identifier (ruler, printed out silhouette, etc.). Even the large scaled 1/43 cars are not that bad, it is just more noticeable when a smaller and larger scaled are side by side. Unfortunatley if you cannot check them out in person first it is just a roll of the dice.

Also if the 28mm figures are on slotted bases the extra height helps make things look visually ok, even though 1/43 is technically larger than it should be.

For huge fun you should post the question on TMP, it's a war starter for sure.  

Lots of people agree on 1:56, best for size but usually metal or resin kits so more expensive.

1:60 is also good for older more 25mm sized people, but looks fine with the currently popular 28s.

Others go for 1:48 as you can get lots of cheaper plastic kits in that scale and looks about right.

I think you have to just pick a scale and stick with it.

I know the problem. I guess the best scale would be 1/55 where you can get some Siku and Majorettes.

What are you after them for? if you are doing moderns go 1/64th as then they will match Chieftain, Sloppy and FOA better

I go with 1/43, they're cheap and widely available.

Neither of them fits at all, 1/43 is way to big, 1/64 to small. The ideal scale will depend on what you plan to do with them. For the typical near future games 1:50 or even 1:48 works well, even though they are too big. You should also consider what size of terrain you are going to use. Ainsty stuff i.e. is usually quite big and looks fine with 1:48. I think their car's are 1:43 conversions.
Figures based on washers go pretty well with die cast toy cars even though these are not scale consistent.

Sloppy Jalopy and Chieftain are both working on 1:56 Land Rovers at the moment.
