A Battle Across time and space
« on: July 08, 2011, 09:25:58 PM »
No, not Doctor Who. I have this crazy idea to have a hero-based game that takes player's heroes from across multiple genres and have them duke it out. I'm thinking it would have to be either a pulp ruleset or a fantasy ruleset, but im not sure where to begin in either or that either of them would work well.

And Heroscape is out because I dont want to but a ton of the flipping squares just to play a game.

Any thoughts  ???

I had a similar thought for a time travel game - a small group of heroes travelling through time to collect artifacts and or get involved in historical events (such as starting the Great Fire of London).

One thing to consider is how many figures you will need. With the scope you really want small numbers unless you can double up on figure use, otherwise you end up needing to buy a lot of figures for each game.

Rules - there are many to choose from, but I was looking at either .45 adventure or Where Heroes dare, but another option is the Ganesha Games series that way you can add modern firearms with spells and monsters etc without too much effort.

Well typically I imagine that it would involved only a handful per team. Perhaps some people would have minions but I really dont imagine that they would have more than 10 at max. I've looked at Rattrap and Iron Ivan, and Rattrap looks too complicated and Iron Ivan too expensive. I already have the Mutants Deathrayguns rules, so maybe they'll be good for my evil purposes with a few tweaks. Accordingly do you have Song of Blades etc. and whats the general procedure for Magic?

I would go with the Ganesha Games products for something like this.
Using Song of Blades and Heroes for fantasy and ancient, Drums and Shakos for black powder era, and Flying Lead for the more recent and future stuff.

All the games use the same core mechanic, so you (and your players) can easily transition the time periods.

It's an interesting idea.  I would like to see how it comes out for you.

I think, upon second thought, that Skulldredd's fantasy game would work perfectly with this.  :P

For inspiration, try the old board game 'Duel of Ages' from worldspanner.
It's essentially what you're describing, just in board game form.

Yes.  The heyday of RPG insanity.  A great little game with simple rules.  I still have a copy.
This is my boomstick!
