I'm rewatching the Battlestar Galactica series now.  I own it all on DVD.  I just don't have space or energy for something that big.  I have enough trouble just painting squads...

Funnily enough i've got it on continuous loop - watched it start to finish 6 times now, picking up extra ideas each time.  Also have a few key episodes on my ipad that I can freeze frame, while i'm working on the ship.

you sure, You're not making some sort of movie-background?  :o

I gave me the dose of all BGs last year! A friend of mine got them all ... I really like them. Maybe after watching them in one single shot (beside eatin' & sleepin') I am kinda brainwashed ... but heck ... I liked them!  :D

So - go on crafting! I very curious and wanna see it all!

Nah, this is just a bit of fun.

Gave everything a coat of paint, and added a bit of railing to the gantry.

Normally I'd wait until I'd finished the whole model, before painting, but I want to see how it looks with the lights, and so thought I'd give it a quick coat.

Something about not having to include like; over sized or huge really lets you build what you want :)

True, and you know how I like my Battlefield games....  ;)

Guess i'd better get a move on then.

Another quick update:

A very quick first stage paint job - will need tidying up, especially the lines on the support beams, but it gives a better effect IMHO than cutting them.  Am pleased that the white paint/LED combo seems to work well - will do a second stage paint job later on, to tidy up the lines, but also add some weathering/rust, once i've added additional detailing - this probably won't be until i've finished the rest of the build, in order to tie all the modules together.

As you can see, have added the lighting supports - the LEDS themselves can still be removed very quickly, for storage/transport, or even other projects, which is why I went with this lighting option.  The hangar pod has 72 LEDs, with some more (red) planned for the launch tubes.

Have got a lot of real-life/work stuff coming up the next couple of weeks, so probably not much more progress for a while, but not bad for the first couple of weeks.

Quite the project you have going.  I'll have to keep tabs on this as you progress.

Nice,

Have you thought about having the strips cut in vinyl from a decal company? Might be cheaper than you think, plus you could get them to print photo quality texture grabs? Add that to your deckplating textures and robert's your father's brother ;)

Also there's a little resin company I found with some nice ladders, catwalks, vents, service hatches and even some nice side arms for your armoury, link below:

Interesting links - cheers.

 :)

Re: the deck stripes, am sure will be fine, once I tidy them up - this was very much a quick job, to see how they'd look.  The advantage of painting them, is that I've got plenty of White paint, if I change my mind.

 lol
