Malayan Emergency Suggested Colours?
« on: June 27, 2011, 04:31:54 PM »
Firstly sorry if this is the wrong section.

Anyway for a year or so I lusted after the Inkerman Castings Malayan emergency miniatures finding both the the period and the figures rather cute but as these things go it was never quite the right time to get them. Then when Dave Howitt passed away I sadly came to the conclusion I would never get my hands on the miniatures. Well I was at phalanx and Grubby tanks had them so I splurged and got some.

Anyway I have been trying to decide what the correct colours for the brits and the CT's would be and seem to be going in circles deciding on colours. Has anyone who has painted them suggest what colours they used?
Cheers

I used a basic faded khaki for my CTs, available as a triad from Cote D'arms.

I'll be using my jungle green recipe for the Brits and Gurkhas.

Matakishi! Did you share your jungle basing method in the end?

Sorry for not replying sooner.

For my MRLA I settled with Vallejo Green Ochre mixed with Yellow Ochre and a highlight. Seeing the uniform in the museum I thought it was pretty close.

British etc I'll let you know.

Grubby has e-mailed me saying he has most of the bits for the dingo with dust-bin and will get back to me when he has all the parts and ready for casting.

He is a tad busy getting Britannia miniatures back on track at the moment.

Cheers,

Helen
Best wishes,

Here is a sample of my painted British infantryman for the Suffok regiment.

I used Vallejo Cayman Green and American Uniform as the base colour followed by adding Dark Yellow. Green Ochre was added to the mix followed by Tan Yellow for super highlight.

Webbing and Pack I went for Caymen Green and Camo Olive Green plus Dark Yellow and Green Ochre with a final touch of Tan Yellow.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Helen

When I was in the army in the 80s (and prior to the issue of the Tropical DPM kit), we had jungle uniform that was exactly the same pattern as the stuff used in Malaysia etc.

Seriously!  :o  lol

The faded shade of OG you've used is exactly how our kit looked after a few months in the Belizean jungle.

You've nailed it, Helen!  :D

Thanks GM for your kind words. Actually, I was wearing  similar kit in Malaya during the early eighties.

lol  Probably from the same stock, then. As far as I can remember, the Aussies in 'Nam wore the same OG kit as us Brits.
I was in Belize in 1980, so it sounds like we were military contemporaries  :)

Cheers,
Ian
