I have a bunch of the Gundam collectables. They fit in nicely with my Battletech figures. I also got a box full of ones that are about 1/3 the size. Still don't know what I am planning to do with them.

In Osaka we found a store that only sells Gundams:

But the mother of all Gundams was in Tokyo:

'So do all who see such times. But that is not for us to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that we are given.'

It wa only there for a few weeks, we were lucky to see it, but, yes, being a geek in Japan is an accepted lifestyle and not an oddity.
I am certain that there is no equivelant area to Akihabara in Tokyo or Den Den Town in Osaka anywhere else in the world........
Five storey model shops opposite each other........
Manga in every convenience store.......
Five storey video game emporiums....
Pachinko parlours.....
and the kind of Internet Cafe which is miles away from anything seen in the UK.

Fantastic isn't it  :D

Recently there have been complaints in certain parts of Osaka where there are lots of flats (or mansion housing as the Japanese call it, and every single one has a balcony) about the smell of spray paint. A lot of 'pla-modellers' have been using their balconies to spray their model kits parts and it seems to be getting a bit out of control so Osaka city council have opened up a series of small workshops that can be hired by the hour for the young modellers to do their smelly work when they need to  :D

That five story Gundam shop is owned by Joshin which is like their equivalent of Currys or Dixons over here and there's a normal one just opened up last year near my in-laws house. Full of electrical goods and an incredibly well stocked model section (guess where I go for my evening constitutionals  ;) ).

I still haven't been to see the real scale Gundam yet  :( but I will do one day  :)

cheers

James

Yay! Nipponbashi, I spent there whole days! :) Not as impressive as Akihabara, but still full of charming places! =)

Even the backstreet stores are good.

Cool thread. I highly recommend "War in the Pocket".
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

;) Mate, would gladly do it. But you might want to take a quick peek at the exchange rate. The pound is having it's arse handed to it by the Yen so it might end up pretty pricey for all you lot stuck in Merry Old England.

It was extortionate two years ago when I was there, the 105 Yen store was very popular.  :D
