I can't wait to see Uncle Mike's paint job on this one, it's gonna be hella bad ass!
Thanks for the compliments everyone, I'm the sculptor on her and it was definitely a lot of fun to do!
@Argonor. It's an 'Eldritch Rex', when Mike and I were talking about the design we decided on detailed but siding more on the side of Classic Sci-Fi than scientific accuracy. Basically, Ray Harryhausen with more speed and menace. So I took some liberties with extra horns and a leaner face, drawing on some reference pictures for a life-size Albertosaurus I did for the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, North Carolina.
@Sangennaru. Interestingly, adult T. rex's probably didn't have feathers actually. While we know early Tyrannosauroids definitely did (Dilong specimens from China demonstrate them) we have skin impressions from later Tyrannosauroids (Tarbosaurs and Albertosaurus I believe) that show pebbly skin textures. Current thinking is that the young would have been born with a coat of downy feathers and then lost them as they grew up and dissipating heat (rather than retaining it) would have been a greater concern due to their huge size.
Though that doesn't rule them out as a crest or keeping them just along the arms etc, we do know that the adults at least had mostly pebbly skin.
