Battle of Alnar- comic
« on: August 09, 2011, 09:06:45 PM »
Hi all! I've been lurking over my GM husband's (Teshub) shoulder for a while now. I found a fun program to put together a mini-comic of photos from our home-brew-world game session. I thought it was time to join and share this different view. I take the photos for us, and came out of semi-retirement to paint my PC. Many of the orcs you'll see were my paints as well from back in the day.

Hope you enjoy the story!
Jev

Welcome!

Nice little report - the "comic" has real flow.

Love the orcs on horseback - very refreshing.

Thanks all!

Those Grenadier orcs have always been some of my favorites. I like their menacing look. Slight weapons mods on the spears.

It was hard to find horses that could carry the mounted orcs; we had to use Reaper horses to get something beefy enough.

The comic program is Manga Studio Debut 4 by Smith Micro Software. I used the 30-day trial, but the full version is less than $50 US. I'm currently working on another report of our kids' first gaming session using the more expensive version trial (Manga Studio EX 4, $299 US retail, lots of online retailers have it for just over $100 US). It may be overkill for simply importing pictures and plopping down word balloons as I'm using it, but I'm really happy with the end result. It's nice to see a lifetime of reading comics pay off.  ;)

Good job - really nicely done. An excellent way of telling a bat-rep and showing off your figure painting from a variety of angles without it seeming contrived. Looking forward to the next instalment.

I too forgot how nice those Grenadier orcs are/were (and so nicely painted) - anyone know if they are still for sale anywhere?

Definitely loved the comic book presentation of the battle rep!   lol  It was fantastic, thanks for taking the time to present it in that manor.

Thanks again, I'm glad you all enjoyed the comic. As Little Odo pointed out, it's a challenge to use the same figures as main characters without it getting old. (btw- I think http://www.mirliton.it/ carries the Grenadier orcs)

The comic turned out to be a great adventure summary for our players and story-telling aid for people that have no idea what it is we do. I'm currently working on the next one since I had so much fun with the first.  :D

Welcome to the forum, Jevenkah!
What a great way to introduce yourself. :o
The paintjobs are all excellent, but the comic really brings them to life.
Great set-up for all the pictures, were you a choreographer in a past life? ;)

didn't see any painted Grenadier Orcs since decades, very nice!
Agree with the Prof on this one. Seeing all those Greenskins from my youth makes me all nostalgic. As a lover of 80's figures this is wonderful! Had almost forgotten how good those Grenadier Orcs were.
Nice touch with horses, too.

Looking forward to seeing some more.

Stunning thread all round really - lovely comic with great illustrations (I really like how you've done the map) and excellent photography (great use of different perspectives), great minis brilliantly painted (I recognise some of Nick Lund's sculpts in there, they're very distinctive)... I really am in awe. Top notch.

And have some of these too -  :o & :-*
