Artizan FFL command packs/other future releases ?
« on: August 14, 2011, 03:56:30 PM »
Has anyone any news on when the new command packs, the ones in pith helmets will be released? I see Turcos are planned, will there be any more FFL types or other troops for this era? Just asking in case anyone has the info. ;D

I nicked most of the pics from the Frothers boards. The Tirailleurs algériens are obviously done (probably two packs, judging by the rest of the range) and there will be two command packs for the FFl as well. The chaps in full dress look very nice, but are not terribly useful since such uniforms were never worn in the field. Pics of the complete command packs should appear soon on the Artizan website.

Since there is a "command pack I" there must be another with command in helmet. The packs are suppose to have 4 figures and the bugler figure  in kepi must be in "command I".Any ideas as to what the others are? I'm thinking 2 officers, bugler and sergeant maybe.

The Officers in helmets are a 'must have'.  The French colonies on Mars need a new influx of good officers.

Have heard the command pack in sun helmets will be a couple of weeks away, that is the ones in the photos Arthur tracked down for us. One figures seems to be based on Lt Selchauhansen, a Danish officer killed at El Moungar whilst the other officer (in cheich/goggles on helmet) is from a photo of a mounted company building an outpost and having seen the actual photo the figure is a dead match. Kudos to Artizan for this range. I believe mules with riders and Touregs and other tribesmen are in the pipeline at some stage too along with the Tirraileurs.

Didn't Mike Owen sculpt the Dixon French colonial range? I am just wondering how compatible they are??

He did. I suspect his Artizan figures will be slightly taller, with better anatomy and crisper detail, as his sculpting style has evolved quite a bit since his Dixon days.

Spot on, they are bigger, butvthe Dixon ones are still good

Hi,
There should be a good few new packs added to this range over the next month. I have just finished the advancing Askari pack and a third pack of command figures. Partly finished I have marching Askari and Legionaries, Legionaries in uncovered kepis skirmishing and a mounted command pack. I will be doing some characters and local police and then start on the Tribesmen.
All the best.
Mike

Great news! What about the Algerians? How many packs of those?
I'm waiting for the range to get some real numbers to it then going on a big buy spree!

Hi,
There will be 2 packs of the basic riflemen for the Algerians along with a command pack. I will be doing another pack in the short jacket as well. I am planning some Spahi and Chasseurs D'Afrique as well. The sun helmeted command are all done, I just needed to do a repair on the bugler green and get him re moulded so it was delayed a bit.
