Alex, could make a really big closeup and maybe a small tutorial for the skin? Just which colors you use, etc. I'm not really satisfied with the africans I'm painting up and maybe I can improve something with your help :)
I was there the day that Horus fell.

the colours are easy - Plaka Dark Brown and light up with VCM Ivory, ca. 5 layers. I'll post a close-up tomorrow

Alex - I remain very inspired by your project and I said that I would post a pic when I'd sorted through my Darkest Africa figures

The force is designed for use with the "In the Heart of Africa" rules and is based on the 'White Explorers' army list. There are two figures painted already! But not by me. The Explorer and his gunbearer were painted for me a few months ago by Graham Wilkinson (Mindenbrush) and are superb. Most of the figures you will recognise as by Foundry, but the 'Soldiers' are Copplestone Sailors in Sennet hats (oop) and the Gardner gun is also from Mark.

By the time you read this they should all have been undercoated, but it will take quite a while to paint them to completion. I must concentrate on commission work as that is what pays the bills. Hopefully, I'll get 4 or 5 done a week. I'll set myself a target of Christmas to complete them all.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Chris.

Hi Chris, welcome aboard, glad to see you here!!!  Very nice force and i'm looking forward to see the figs painted. These OOP soldiers, i'm very jealous of them, would like to get my hands on them :) BTW, I'm still thinking about my Nordendeldt gun crew, the british sailors don't fit to my german force

Thanks for the welcome Alex - this seems like a very friendly forum.

I guess that you are going to do a head swap, or find alternative figures. I've just had a quick look at the figures that make up my musketeers units and there are several that would make good conversions for a gunner. Whatever you decide I am sure that it is going to look excellent.
