A Hall of Fame

We get newbies joining the forum everyday (long may it continue) and we welcome them, saying how much inspiration they will see from so many fantastically talented members. We know the 'greats' and remember their outstanding work but where does a new member go to instantly access it? So here is the idea:

Outstanding projects - the truly remarkable ones that everyone follows, irrespective of your own personal interests, the ones that show groundbreaking sustained excellence go into a Hall of Fame topic.

Ones that spring to mind recently are Gamermac's Zeppelin, and Colonel of Truth's Gargantua. The work of Vikotnik.

I do not think we should induct projects lightly. But it is time these amazing creations had a suitable resting place where they can be seen and appreciated by those who may have missed them simply by joining too late. I'd welcome comments.

For once, Bezzo, I agree w/ you!  There are some truly great projects buried in all the day-to-day traffic around here.  Perhaps a poll, and if a project gets "x" amount of votes, it is a Hall of Famer?

I'll nominate Thantsants' Orc's Drift project.

An excellent idea!  That way we don't forget the members' awesome work either!  And easy access is a great thing as well...

Perhaps each board should have a Hall of Fame catagory. Like the stickies, they would show up first in the listings and have a high-lighted subject band to differentiate the from the other treads. Maybe use the lighter green.

I like the practical aspect of it but would not like to disturb the egalitarian atmosphere here on LAF.

I know from experience (see the stickies in Workbench and How to...) that there are difficulties in being consistent picking out the threads which are fine examples and great inspiration.

Personally, I'd get rid of most of the stickies (apart from the ones about Forum rules, and possibly a few FAQs).  They build up at the top of a board like barnacles on the hull of a ship, and obscure current conversations.  They need scraping off.

If a subject is popular, it doesn't need to be made sticky.  If it isn't popular, it shouldn't be.

AcuallymI think its rather amazing digging through old threads and finding some gem; it makes me feel like a successful archaeologist... With a fedora, .45, whip, and leather jacket. 

Seriously though, how do people feel about threadomancy. Especially if it is for a fantastic piece of work? Or perhaps for questions?

I don't think its necessary, and agree with Hammers in that it can create animosity among those projects that are great, but just don't make the cut for Hall of Fame.

If it were done, I would suggest one thread with links, rather than each project getting their own sticky, cluttering the top of the forums as Steve points out.
