Japanese Type 97 Chi Ha
« on: August 20, 2011, 05:27:02 AM »
Finally the Type 97 Chi Ha is painted, based and ready for action. Thanks to Michael Broadbent for the aerial and gunners hatch makeover allowing for the Company B/Brigade Games Model to look more impressive. I made up the aa mount and attached a suitable machine gun. The crew from Company B/Brigade Games required little work. A fuel drum, ammo box and chains lashing down the former on the rear engine deck plus some additional stowage items completed this model. Perusing through my many books on Japanese armour camouflage I came across a camouflage scheme that I liked an appropriate for the period in the Pacific.

Thanks for looking.
Helen
Best wishes,
Helen

Looks great Helen.  Even though I have seen these close up, the addition of crew figures really brings home how small these tanks were.

Awesome work! The Type 97 was always one of my favourites ever since I saw a diorama with a Type 97 going loggerheads with an Indian elephant back in the 90s. Your painting technique looks excellent, and I really like the slight sheen which I always found more appropriate for 1930s/early 40s AFVs rather than the ultra-matte, dusty look that is so popular nowadays.

That really is great and as Chris pointed out the "sheen" really does make a difference

Thank you very much guys for your kind words. The Chi-Ha ranks as one of my favourite tanks of all times.

I'm not a spay painter an I prefer to hand paint my vehicles which IMHO provides more character to the model considering the scale in question.

Thanks again for your kind remarks,

Helen

Great paint job, Helen. When I get around to ordering some Japanese tanks, will look to your painting for examples.

Totally agree.  However, painting a vehicle really well with a brush is quite an art.

Your tank is art.

Nice job!
