Continuing from the VSF water table ...I thought I show some other stuff I did with the water.

How about a Whale Hunt?
Was great fun to play. We used pins and stuck them in the styrofoam whale I modeled.

Poor whale, though.  :( Where's Moby Dick when you need him?

Says a lot about my strange ideas that the death of a styrofoam whale saddens me more than that of a lead or plastic human.

Nice idea, though - and very nice whalers too.

Nice work. Great sculpting on the whale.

I like to see people run the odd non-skirmish game.

That's probably because the whale has such a friendly face, you'll just have to feel sorry for it ;P

Seriously, very nice idea and models!!

Love it... However is hunting still wargaming?  lol

Would like to see a set of rules and scenarios for hunting games such as this - could include all periods as well as sci-fi and fantasy. Which brings me to the next question what game mechanics did you use?

Depends on what you're hunting and how fast you can run if the prey turns around I guess... :)

There are quite a few hunting rhemed games around.
"Tusk" - mammoth hunting cavemen is probably the only commercial set I can recall.

I seem to recall Wargames Illustrated had simple rules for British Light Cavalry fox-hunting in the Penninsular War, also tiger hunting in India, and I think they had whaling too.

About a year ago I was working on a dino-herding game (not really hunting, but close) to play with my then-seven-year-old. The idea was the Morlocks (LotR Uruk-hai with pikes) would try to corral the escaping dinosaurs (plastic dinosaurs...).

I think it was a 'wargame'. Given a fairly wide definition of war anyway (are 'quest' or 'treasure-hunting' games strictly 'wargames'?)
