Rivet decals!

Someone at TMP posted about this;

Tell me this won't revolutionize our scratch building methods!

"...each package contains over 118 square inches (two large decal sheets) of several different rivet patterns in both straight lines and curves, plus bonus louvers and grillwork."

All 3D! Oh, happy day!  :-*  :D

Gorgeous!  But the website does not take paypal, and they want $9 to ship USPS.

Hmm, must see if local hobbyshop can order them for me.

I've emailed them with reference to their shipping rates.  Using USPS, guessing a weight of 8oz and 1lb (probably weighs less - they are only decals), large rigid envelope, First Class Mail international Package (to Canada), the price to ship is $3.54 and $5.58 respectively.  Their Shopping Cart says a touch under $15 for 4 packs.

I don't mind paying slightly over the USPS rate, to take account of the envelope ($1?) and the cost of a mail order troll to put the decals in the envelope (50c) but I wont be paying $15 that's for sure!!

Why not try Archer Fine Transfers instead? More variety (rivets, weld beads, treadplate, etc.) and more scales (N, HO, O, etc.).  More expensive maybe but shipping under $50 is only $2 worldwide and over $50 it's free.  They also take PayPal.

Quick, I can be quite dense when it comes to math, so stop me in what may be a grievous error.

The Micro Mart two sheets are 118 square inches; the Archer is 2.75" x 4.5" for about 12 1/4 square inches, or about 1/10. Even quibbling about the density on the sheet, and I rather like there are curved lines in the first offering, it seems the latter is much more expensive, even allowing for different distribution on the sheets, and the onerous shippage.

Now, variety of scales is a possible show stopper, but I'm likely to find SOMETHING in MicroMart anyway, and eventually combined shipping seems to kick in at some point, I'll be starting there, UNLESS SOMEONE POINTS OUT MY FLAWED REASONING!

 :D

That said, thanks to EVERYONE for pointing out both products, and what were once foolish dreams, may have a small chance!

I only hope he already knew, and was winking at us the whole time...

Can't say anything about your math but I'd like to just mention a couple of possible reasons for the cost difference.  Micro-Mark is over 80 years old and runs out of a factory/warehouse.  Archer is a little over 20 and for all I know runs out of his house.  All the product is hand-printed in small quantities, is not silk-screened and is unconditionally guaranteed.  I appreciate the amount of material available on the Micro-Mark sheets but there's a good chance I wouldn't use half of it.  (It would be nice to see a clearer picture of what's on the sheet.)  They're a bit like those aircraft decal sheets that contain markings for 10 planes.  Great choice but you've only got one kit.  If you do decide to buy and build a second model, you've now got leftovers for 18 more kits.  It snowballs from there.  I certainly don't have any use for that many louvers or what appear to be tank car dome rivet circles.  I'd rather spend a little more for a product and use it all than buy something cheaper and have half my expense sit there unused.  (Of course, this is coming from a guy who has dozens of those multi-scheme decal sheets just sitting in a box!  ::) )

You pays yer money and makes yer choice.

I love having extra decals.  I always need them for scratchbuilding.  I'm going Micro-Mark.

Amazing... I'll get those rivets for sure. I wish I'd had those for countless projects.

I've ordered many, many times from MicroMark and have had nothing but perfect service.

Fantastic looking products (both companies). I prefer the micro mark ones at this stage but will have to check the shipping details.

Thanks for posting this topic ;)
