Another Day at Bickley Towers - Sudan
« on: August 28, 2011, 10:01:13 PM »
Luckily, I am house-trained and so got a third invite this year.  Two games with Dave, Phil and Jon this time, Sudan and a Western gunfight.

The Sudan game was based on a British force of Phil and I relieving the besieged Egyptians under Jon.  Dave played the randomly appearing Mahdist forces.

The game was made tough because we had a shortened baseline and had to move through broken terrain.  I took the centre with Phil on my right.

Our slow advance didn't last long before dervishes attacked both columns, my camels were destroyed and with them the News of the World reporter, leaving behind the rumours that he had been tapping heliograph signals.

A further attack destroyed my Naval Brigade and Phil stopped to form square.

But then the tide turned, the Mahdists caught between three fires began to wither away, the Tandoori horse relieved the garrison, which then sallied out and stopped any further attacks.

As always, a great day and thanks to Dave and Sue for their hospitality.  Dave's rules allow a fast game, even with four players.

They were Dave's rules for the Sudan "A Good Dusting"

Walls and wall building are the old Ian Weekly ones, the flat roof buildings and mosque were scratch built by yours truly, with an added dome again from Ian Weekly.

The Mortar is from the Foundry FPW range, the crew are the Foundry Crimean War Turkish artillery.

The range would be even better  :-* if the 'blasted Perrys' would finish it off instead of meandering away into all that plastic rubbish! >:(
Where are the 'mounted Mounted Infantry', for example?

By their nature do you mean hopeless application to completing a project before jumping headfirst into something else?
