I love that whole walnut idea - really well done!

The title of the thread reminded me of a story about carnivals and hucksters in the turn-of-the-century American midwest (19th to 20th century in this case).  One story about a huckster involved a 'tent of wonders' that was very misleading.  You paid a penny to go in and see a wonder, and one of those wonders was a Man Eating Plant.  You paid your 1 cent, they ushered you into a tent where there was a man sitting at a table eating some corn.   lol

Love it! :-* :-* :-*

Inspired use of the walnut!

The painting is looking good too, those leaves are fantastic.

Maybe you could put a few scenic items on the base; a discarded hat or something else to indicate that 'it' has had previous victims.....

Mason: I have a skelatal arm clutching a spear and a skull I have painted up to add, but not sure if I should yet.

I was thinking of something a previous victim had dropped, as I assumed that anything the plant swallowed would be digested.
Just my thoughts, its your plant!

The brown colour is very nice, but one though you might do is to work a little green in nearer to the "stem" to merge the two sections better.

My best suggestion is to practice on another walnut shell and see what you like best. Do one on a green that's just a little lighter, then do one where the green is strongest near the throat/stem and fades to brown, maybe some other options like a flowery red with green spots (green spots is another way you can keep it brown but add a touch of green).

Walnuts are cheap enough - might as well take advantage of that.

Once you've tried a couple of mocked-up shells, then go for the final job!

EDIT: For what it's worth, my wife says dark green with bright yellow-green highlight spots would look good.

And once you have practiced a couple of times, you will have a whole menagerie of Man-Eating Plants to frighten your players with! lol
