First game of Bull Run to Gettysburg
« on: September 15, 2011, 04:27:36 PM »
As I have finished drooling over Mr Bickley's new set of rules I thought I would give them a test run, and what a nice, quick play you get from them too.

The scenario set in 1862, was for a couple of Union Brigades to hold a small town against a slightly larger Confederate force. Briefly the Union troops held in defensive positions, which restricted their options slightly, and the Rebs, deployed two brigades of infantry against them, with a brigade of cavalry, and another of infantry in support. A Confederate battery of rifled artillery took up position of some high ground and the main attack was supported by a smoothbore battery. The Union line was supported by a large smoothbore battery. The Confederate attack hit the Union on their flanks, despite taking galling fire as they went in. The Rebs held their fire until at close range and shattered the Union troops with accurate musketry. One Union regiment broke and retreated through their guns causing confusion and the remainder were outflanked as the Rebs pressed their advantage.
Now for some pics:

Union troops march into the town, as the Confederates advance.

First Union brigade in position.
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious!!

Very interested. :-* :-* :-*
Very nice set up.
How do you do the table? Is that a lot of loose scatter material? It looks very realistic.
What scale are the figures?

Am I allowed to say I would like to see more too? Wonderful looking game, and some lovely figures by my favourite manufacturer too....

Thanks for the kind words. Some technical info. The table is 8' x 4", sadly not enough room for more. I use TSS terrain tiles, and then lots of scatter grass to cover joins and blend in the scenery. Most of the terrain features are scratch built, but there are Hovels resin buildings, and the Empress factory which does not look out of place. The figures and flags are all my own painting. Makes, are Dixon, Foundry, Redoubt, First Corps and a handful of Perry metals, all of the mounted figures are metal, Foundry and a couple of Perry officers, but mounted on Perry plastic horses. Oh figures are all 28mm, are there any others then? ha ha.

Now for some more piccies.

A brigade of Virginians advance on the Reb's right flank.

The battle line presses forward.

A Rebel cavalry brigade in support.

A fierce firefight ensues as the Rebs reach the Federal line.

Union artillery fire in support.

Yankees break as the Rebs press their advantage.

The cavalry advance.

The Union line begins to crumble as they are outflanked.

Thanks to all of you for the kind comments, I hope you have enjoyed this.
