Super-soldiers?
« on: September 17, 2011, 05:52:57 PM »
I want to put together a small team of super-soldiers that can be reasonably explained by serums/technology/mutation and have sort of stumbled a bit.

There is Captain America who had super-serum and turned into a not too super hero.
Ironman led to the introduction of Warmonger through specialist armour.
Is Black Widow a super hero or just a martial artist?
Is Nick Fury a superhero or just a normal leader?

I need a few more ideas and would prefer a mix of male and females but don't want them to be aliens, weird mutants (with wings/invisibility/extra limbs etc) or REALLY super (like superman).

I will be using them to join my armed forces and want them to be explained away as government experiments turned good.  I am looking at a party of 5 or 6.

They will get costumes rather than uniforms but there won't be any capes.

Please help with a few names so I can look up their Marvel/DC profiles :)

EDIT:  I am not after miniatures as these will all be self sculpts.

Black Widow is cybernetically improved, if I remember correctly.

Nick Fury is just a though guy. But the Ultimate universe, he's the first "Captain America".

You have Wolverine, aka Weapon-X, who looks reasonably normal except when he extends his claws. Adamantium-covered skeleton is optional, if you wish. Primary superpower is healing (regeneration) factor. Enhanced senses, too.

Or Deadpool, the merc wirh a mouth. Healing factor, and elite assassin.

Hawkeye, expert markman. Either naturally talented and well-trained, or cybernetically enhanced (Ultimate version).

Daredevil, blind but with super-hearing, so it acts as a sonar. Well trained and though.

Off the top of my head. If you want more, just ask. ;D

They will be for a sci-fi army so I reckon that a bit of cyber enhancement wouldn't be out of the question.

Super healing could be rationalised by some form of serum that enhances the bodies own ability so that would be OK.

I think that I could go as far as tough skin (like the Thing) but not make it too odd looking...maybe a brute like the Hulk but not as angry and more predictable (he would be the brute all the time)

So...

Nick Fury-the super version...but not too super and more clever/tactical (the go between)
Warmonger/Ironman
Captain America
Black Widow
A Brute of some kind...maybe Juggernaut? (is he bullet proof?).
...another one...another female?

I am not keen on Deadpool because he was an amalgam of mutants and I don't think I want mutants to be 'readily available'.  He's also a sword fighter so I put him in the same sort of league as Black Widow (marshal artist).

Wolverine is cool but if I was going to use a character like him, I'd probably go for the Beast but with a bit less fur.

Is there a female version of a 'Flash' type character (super speed)?

I think a five person team with a sixth one as a go-between would be about right (not too much sculpting and just enough to have a presence).

Juggernaut's primary power is being unstoppable. Once he begins moving, absolutely nothing can stop him (although Thor made him stumble with a superthunder or something). He also has the typical superstrength, superstamina... powers. You can rule that he's bullet-proof, if you wish. To be honest, he has the perfect looks for a brute character.

I can't think of any good female speedster. There was an evil one as memeber of the Liberators (enemies of the Ultimates), Hurricane:
Quote
This Hurricane is a character in the Ultimate Marvel Universe, a woman with super-human speed (gained from surgery) from North Korea. She is a member of The Liberators, an international counterpart of The Ultimates. The Liberators invade the USA, killing thousands. She is defeated when Quicksilver forced her to move at speeds beyond her limits, tearing her body apart. She first appeared in Ultimates vol. 2 #9 (January, 2006).

BTW, are we talking human or grymn?

Because if you're talking about human supers, I don't see why you should limit yourself to Marvel or DC fluff. You can invent your own, which is the best part of this hobby, in my opinion.

Of course, if you want to sculpt grymn versions of famous supers... I'm all for it! :D

And for the sake of self-pimping, have a look at a supers group I invented:

Actually that's only in the terrible movie, in the primary comics universe (626), Deadpool was a special forces soldier (not a mutant) who got aggressive cancer and joined weapon X hoping for a cure. The procedure cured his cancer and granted him a healing factor, but left him horribly scarred and mentally unstable.

Although I will be creating my own paint-schemes and giving them different names, I thought I'd lean heavily on the Marvel/DC universe for ideas because they are the ones I am most familiar with.  It also makes them easier to describe if I say..."that chap there is like the Beast" rather than not having an obvious comparison.

I think I need to find out a bit more about Deadpool because I only know the movie version :(.

I quite like the idea of Hurricane.  She sounds 'creatable' due to her being surgically enhanced by the Koreans...although she won't be a baddie.

So:
Nick Fury
Warmonger/Ironman
Captain America
Hurricane
Black Widow
Juggernaut/Beast/Brute

Any ideas on a cool brute other than Juggernaut/Beast?  There are the Thing, the Rhino, Abomination but they are a bit too mutated for my liking...and the Hulk is a bit too unpredictable...

Just being pedantic, but regular Nick Fury has powers; he is very long lived thanks to the Infinity Formula.

I think the Rhino would work well in your sci-fi setting. I forget the particulars but he doesn't have powers. He wears a big powered robotic suit type of thing that makes him near bullet proof and also super strong. That seems explainable with your future setting and follows the Iron Man type of science.
Along similar lines there are also Crimson Dynamo and Warmachine.

Rhino is a bloke in robotic armour?!  The things you learn when you ask questions  :o .  I had no idea and just assumed he was some sort of mutant.

Even though he is an armour wearer, I'd prefer the brute to be a natural brute...through a serum/bio-engineering so as not to clash with the Ironman character.

I am not familiar with Sasquatch (is he DC?)...what powers does he have?

Every time I have mentioned Warmonger, I have actually meant Warmachine  :'(...sometimes I am a confused person.  Warmonger was the giant armour that had a go at Ironman in the first film, wasn't he?  I think that it would be too big for my purposes :(.

Crimson Dynamo may be an option instead of Ironman...

Decisions, decisions...

Nah, sasquatch is the `powerhouse` of the Alpha Flight team, a scientist that experimented with the Hulk gamma ray tech, which went a bit sour yet not as much as with Dr Banner

As is Black Widow.  No cybernetics there.

Iron Monger was the guy in the first Iron Man film.  He also appeared in the comics.

How about the Punisher?  No powers, just a really good soldier.

Deathlok, a cybernetic zombie type guy.

Deathstroke form DC.  He has a healing factor, heightened reflexes and I think senses.  He supposedly uses all of his brain when thinking.  Not sure if that is still part of his continuity.  He is a mercenary.

Deadshot, expert marksma from DC.

There`s also Colossus to be a viable option as the `brute`, with his organic metal skin, he could just be a real badass android instead of a human mutant
