In all honesty, the Prussians  I've encountered looked more plump than wicked.

Very nice indeed.  And nice to see something besides the iconic British Redcoats (even if the genre is called VICTORIAN Science Fiction).  Good to remember that until well after about 1900 or so, the British don't think of the Germans as probable enemies - France and Imperial Russia were considered far more threatening to the Empire (before William II ditched Bismarck and started to build a high seas fleet.)
