Horsed Cav
« on: September 28, 2011, 11:09:03 PM »
I have been considering horsed cav for my modern armies.  Or my post WWII armies.  I was thinking of Mike Williams' Grey's Scouts in Rhodesia.
Any ideas for 20 to 25 mike mike troops?
Any thoughts on the practicality of mounted infantry on the modern battlefield?

As mounted infantry without serious aerial opposition, maybe.  I include drones in that category.

Armor (well, the tier below the M-1 level of AFVs,) can be defeated by man portable weapons but the danger of Arty guided by Drones or aerial observers is extremely threatening too.

Third world scenarios come to mind (or apocalypse - but that enters SF/Fantasy realms.)

Horses are incredibly costly to maintain in the field, fragile in a modern environment, and the troops require training not common to many nations/cultures.

Gracias,

Glenn

Thanks, Glenn.  I was planning to use them for scouting and patrolling in thicker country not really accessible to vehicles except helicopters.  Mainly in a third world type game.
