Hello swashbucklers,

Has anyone built a ship using the templates in the Legend of the High Seas rulebook? If so, would the said builder(s) care to share some photos? I'm asking because I'm about to build one from these templates myself, and it would be interesting to see what others have done.

No, but I've read about others doing so.

Can't recall if it was on this forum, or another one, but I think the dimensions for one piece is wrong, or needs to be increased in size.

I'd recommend checking this site, and/or the LotHS Yahoo Group for more info.

Obviously, if you have a scanner/printer, you can resize, as needed.

Some people use foam core as their base, and for the bulkheads/hull. Others use balsa or basswood.

I've used the latter to make cardboard vessels, using the wood for the bottom of the hull, and then cardboard for the sides of the boats.

You can use pins in either case to hold the sides in place, while the glue dries your pieces to the main hull.

There is a photo of a ship built with this template in the photo section of the LOTHS Yahoo group. It's in the folder "Tim's Ships AARR", and it's Seahawk. After searching the messages a bit I discovered that the template must be enlarged by 33% to be the intended size. I'm thinking about some modifications and then will give it a go...

The minimi miniatures ships use the tempaltes as a basis for their ships

Have you had a look on the workbench board? I am sure someone posted a thread about just that subject.
There are also various other threads on people building pirate ships or in my case a Royal Navy sloop

I have the Gary Chalk templates,and plan to use them soon. I was interested in seeing a model built using the LOTHS templates. I started building my ship yesterday and hope to finish it today. I've taken photos as I go but and will post the results when the ship is seaworthy.

Thanks for the links to other threads. I love seeing what others have built.

gamer Mac, I've read your post about building your sloop and found it inspiring. You mentioned that you posted your templates. I'm interested in having a look at them.

I think the LOTHS templates show a small sloop and the Gary Chalk ones are a larger Brig?
or did gary chalk do the sloop ones in the LOTHS rule book as well?

A copy of the template I used. Not very good I am afraid just a scanned copy of an A4 page. It never turn out as good as I thought it would.
Maybe enough to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the templates! I'll see what I can do with them in the future. The Gary Chalk templates are for a larger ship than the templates in LOTHS. The LOTHS templates are for a small sloop, and I can say are very well done, now that I'm involved in building a ship form them.

The Gary Chalk templates do make a larger Brig, and do need increasing in size as others have indicated. Check more on my blog for both...

Funny co-incidence, I printed out that template when you first posted it, but just yesterday I decided it was the perfect size to fit a gap in my fleet, and I cut out the parts. I'm doing pre-assembly painting of the cardboard and I'll post pics to my thread in the workbench section when it's farther along. Thanks for sharing it.

You need to upload photo first to a hosting site like photobucket or imageshack, then add the image code link to the forum post and the picture will appear in your post.
Its perhaps also a good idea to first crop or resize the image to about 640 wide as this fits well in the forum post for size.
