Wars of The Roses Battle
« on: October 02, 2011, 12:51:58 PM »
Here are a few snaps I took of the Wars of The Roses game I ran at Matakishi's tea party yesterday. It's not really a battle report, since the battle was so confusing, it's kinda hard to keep track of what the hell was going on!  ;)

But it gives a flavour...

The Earl of Surrey's archers and handgunners line up for the turkey shoot...

Sir Thomas Howard consults. His veteran men-at-arms lurk with poleaxes ready...

And they're off... News of the enemy's approach reaches the Earl.

Down in the woods, the rebellious Tenchleys are on the move...

Banners streaming...

Their men-at-arms cross the rickety rackety bridge...

Followed by their bowmen and billmen - straight into a withering rain of arrows from Howard's archers...

Meanwhile the Foyles and DeBrasseys enter the fray from the other direction, and a three way slugfest is about to get underway...

He who holds the hedgerow, holds the lane...

Sir Roger De Corlay tries to rally the Howard forces on the hill...

But it's come down to a hack-and-slash melee in the village centre...

At this point, I had to stop snapping and concentrate on what the hell was unfolding on the tabletop, as several furious battles took place, before Howard drove off both his enemies, slew their captains, and made good his personal safety, like a true medieval Lord...  ;)

Just time for a quirky time-warp shot of Thundercheeks' Victorian buildings on the table behind, creeping into the medieval scene on my table!

Takes the cake and certainly my cup of tea - the best thing I have seen in a while! The Medieval period lends itself so well to skirmish games - just two Lords and their personal retinues. I think I need to start putting less figures down on the table. The river is also fantastic - no doubt on a more peaceful day a lovely place to do a spot of fishing.  lol

Of course! Help yourself  :)

A simple variant of 'Kill Zone' - simple, free rules adapted from Future Wars to Medieval! It's a great system. I like it and use it for almost everything  8)
