HMS Seahorse 25/28mm Old Glorys Man o War (picture heavy)
« on: October 02, 2011, 04:50:03 PM »
Hi all, new on the forum!

I thought I'd share my progress on my 25/28mm ship.

It all started with me and some friends here in Sweden talking about playing pirates of the high seas and I was very exited always wanted a semi historic pirate game to play :) To tell the truth, I wanted to play royal navy, not any pirates wich might be the most common choice.

I spend days looking for suitable ship models and found the 40 gun Man O' War from Old Glory shipyard. It has playable forcastle and quaterdeck and(!) lower deck access wich is just perfect for scirmish games. That's why I decided to get this peice of ship. Their website is pretty crappy and the picture left much to be wished for and no information about what came with the ship and not. So I took a chance when i ordered the ship, not knowing realy how it looked with details and all.

This is how it looked out of the box:

Ignore the gunports on last picture, they did not come with the ship.

Well, not what I had expected. Details is ok but lots and lots of air bubbles and lowere deck is badly warped, as can be seen on last picture. And all the roses, ornaments and stuff like that just looks out of the place. I was so disapointed first but I thought that if I cut, saw and grind away everything I dont like I have a fresh start. And so I did, spend so much time cutting, sawing, sanding and grinding. Bought tons of aftermarket model ship fittings from www.model-dockyard.com and started re-building the ship.

This is how she looks today, still work in progress. For example I have lots of more little details to get done and I have to get the right proportions to the masts.

That's all for now, might post some more pictures of the deck and detals after tonights band rehersal.
Cheers! /Gabe

That will be one GREAT ship!! Her size is daunting to say the least.

Many thank's gentlemen, much apriciated  ;)

I actualy got some more work done on the stern, got rid of the final peices of the oroginal casted ornament stuff.. feels great! I'm currently planning to make a rudder, have some easy plans how to make one. I will probably make hingies in plasticard I think, but they will be for looks only.

Before and after.

To be continiued..
Kindest regards,
Gabe

Lovely work, I have one, got it around 6 years ago, I am guesing the mold is getting a little old or perhaps it warped in carriage.

Mine is no where near as nice as yours though :-*

Amazing work on the Stern and for that matter all the modifications. I'm going to incorporate similar mod's for the same model. Beautiful work Gabe. I really want to see your final work!

We have that one, and it has seen a decent amount of action.  But as Lowtardog commented, yours is looking much nicer than ours - the extra work you have put into it is paying off.

I might actually buy one of these, would you be willing to make a list of added materials? t would be nice to know what you bought so we all don't have to guess and check ourselves.
