Smoggycon 2011

HeroClix Competition

HeroClix is a collectable super-hero miniatures game produced by Wizkids. Players construct teams of superheroes and super-villains based on characters from Marvel, DC and Indy comic worlds such as DC’s Batman & Superman and Marvel’s X-Men and play out turn-based battles between them on a grid map.

Middlesbrough Gamers Club has a long tradition of playing HeroClix to national standard. Steve Date is the current National Champion and regularly attends and plays at the club on a Thursday night when HeroClix is run.

Paul Spencelayh from Middlesbrough Gamers Club will be running HeroClix participation games especially suited to beginners throughout the day where anyone, without prior experience, can come along and have a go.

In addition, from 1.00pm Paul will be running a (300 points) multiplayer "Death of Galactus" game, open to all-comers, with everyone playing on one large map in a co-operative attempt to fell the Mighty Earth-destroying Galactus. Participation prizes are available for good sportsmanship etc at Paul’s discretion.

Entry to the HeroClix Competition is free to anyone with paid entry to Smoggycon.

To enable a prompt start, entry is on a first-come, first-served basis.
All are welcome and previous knowledge of the rules is not necessary. Emphasis is on fun and fast paced action as well as good sportsmanship and participation. Spot prizes for various achievements such as first critical hit, first knockout etc will be awarded at the judge’s discretion.

Impetus Competition

IMPETUS is an innovative Rules set published by Dadi & Piombo http://www.dadiepiombo.com/impetus.html that contains everything you’ll need to play in Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance period battles.  The rules can be used for figures in any scale and use a basing system compatible with other popular rule sets. Impetus includes a point system for customizing your armies while remaining historically accurate.

Hartlepool Wargames Society http://hartlepoolwargames.co.uk/HWS/ will be running the fourth leg of their series of regional Impetus competition days at Smoggycon this year.  Entrants will qualify for Impetus World League Status

Entry to the Impetus Competition is free to anyone with paid entry to Smoggycon.

Competition Details

The competition format will be “Scottish Open”, ie the entries will be placed in four pools of four players based loosely on historical period, with some leeway to try and avoid placing players from the same club in the same pool. Each player will play the others in their pool, with the overall winner being the player with the highest aggregate score.

Scale will be 28mm / 300pts with armies taken from the Impetus rules, Extra 1-4 and website beta lists (except those beta’s superseded by Extra Impetus). Extra Impetus 4 amendments will be used, as will the “normal” tournament rules: ambushes, flank marches and Rolls of Destiny.

Although there are no restrictions other than above, players are encouraged to use classical period armies if possible to spotlight Extra Impetus 4.

Terrain will be fixed.

There is space for a maximum of 16 players, so if you are interested please contact Ken Natt by email on ken.natt@ntlworld.com  Entries will be dealt with on a first come, first served basis if the competition is over subscribed.

Registration will be no later than 9:30.  A full schedule and any further information will be posted here as the information become available http://www.m-gc.co.uk/smoggycon/index.html
