Need some highlander help
« on: October 14, 2011, 10:36:19 AM »
I've got some of these chaps http://www.perry-miniatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=23_29&products_id=1487 enough to make a 24man battalion for Black Powder but I can't seem to find any reference on what colour scheme, particulary the 'tartan'

If any kind Laffer could help it would be greatly appreciated  :)

cheers

James

These look like the Black Watch who wore the government tartan, all other tartans having been banned after the '45.  This was dark green and dark blue.
'So do all who see such times. But that is not for us to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that we are given.'

Go with the Government Tartan.  It is based on a Campbell tartan supposedly.  Dark Blue, Green, and black.  Post fotos when you've got them finished.
The figures look like they might be usable for the FIW too.

I painted these.
Government tartan should be the same as your even though these are from a different time.

You should talk to Richard he has some cracking Highlanders painted for FIW.

Thanks for the help chaps, muchly appreciated  :)

Never tried tartan before but willing to give it a go. The only thing I'm worried about is getting it a consistent size over all the figures  :?

Thatīs the most difficult thing..keeping a consistant size of the stripes. The bigger the mini the more important this is. I did some kilts for 20mm...took me ages to get into the swing of it.
Basically I used the width of the first painted stripe as a visual measurement for the spacing to the next stripe, I made the gap twice as wide as the painted stripe
Not the best photo but on the kneeling firing fig you can (just about) see the effect.
