Question about 19th Century Russians
« on: October 19, 2011, 12:48:41 PM »
Hello there,

I am just poking around for some information regarding Russians during the 1800s... particularly in the NWF.

There is a thread floating about which answered some questions.

However, does anyne know if the Russians used Cossacks in the NWF? Would these figures be suitable, I wonder:

Too early? Not at all close? Spot on?

The idea of units of Cossacks breaking out in the middle of battle for some looting and pillaging would be lots of fun in a game, I think :)

Yes, they are cossacks of the Napoleonic war period. At the end of the 19th century, cossacks were uniformed with a different uniform.
"The enemy? His sense of duty was no less than yours, I deem. You wonder what his name is, where he came from. And if he was really evil at heart. What lies or threats led him on this long march from home. If he would not rather have stayed there ... in peace. War will make corpses of us all."

For later uniformed Cossaks I'd have thought raiding (pun entirely intended) Crimean, Russo-Turkish, Boxer Rebellion or Russo-Japanese war ranges would be able to provide suitable figures.
