Vampire Circus!
« on: October 25, 2011, 04:49:20 AM »
Just finished watching this mediocre Hammer film and wondered if anyone had ever given it a go as a tabletop? Or if anyone ever made models based on it? It could be great fun, plus who isn't creeped out by tiny model circus performers!

Several years ago I sourced lots of miniatures to game this film. I still have the figures, but never got around to painting them ::)
It looks pretty dated now, but I think its one of Hammers better stories, with lots of nice ideas and touches. Perfect for some role playing and skirmish gaming.
The figures I have include Westwind and Ral Partha Gypsies, a nice fortune teller, some circus perfromers, a juggler, knife swallower and two acrobats and a creepy jester with flaming juggling batons(can't remeber who makes them) a couple of wild animals and a nice circus wagon from West Wind.
You have inspired me to go and dig out the figures now :)

It could have been a much better film - IIRC, the director went over budget, so the producers closed down shooting immediately and assembled the film from what they already had in the can.
Back from the dead, almost.

I painted up a few models a couple months ago, just a small side project I called "Theater macabre". Used some odd West Wind models I had left over from other projects. Initially thought about using them for some sort of "theater based miniature game" I would write rules for from scratch but then they just ended up on the shelf.

Love that geek!  :-* I'll have a peek through the Westwind figures next time I hit the local store. Also, glad to know that there are a few other weirdos out there.  ;)

And, Malamute. Keep us posted on what will no doubt become your best project ever!!!!!

Fantastic. I rather like this idea.

And here's the perfect ringmaster for a circus of horrors...

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

I think is from West Wind.

It sells as a "statue", with 3 extra figs, a cherub, a nun and tha captain with spyglass (the pic just above the gosth) iirc.

Hope that helps
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

As always, magokiron is right on the money. The minis are part of West Wind's Gargoyles in the Realms of Terror:

The ultimate ring-master has to be Papa Lazarou. Kidnapping local women till he has enough to turn into an elephant. And yes it is as bonkers as it sounds!!!

Is it just me, or does anybody else see Alice Cooper there?

No looks just like Alice Copper to me as well, chances are that's what they really wanted too. My only gripe with that model is that the raised leg looks a bit weird in proportion and angle.
