City Street Playmat ?
« on: October 28, 2011, 02:48:12 PM »
anyone know where i can get a fabric or rubberized city street playmat for my zombie games?
i have seen a bunch of 'how to' videos on making my own, and would much rather buy one ready to game on, so i can continue with painting up the figures i have.
any sugestions would be awesome !

Well it might sound a bit off the wall, but have you looked in kids toyshops, places like The Early Learning Centre, I have seen them in there. You can get a street layout, you will just need 3D buildings to cover the rest of it, as they often have flat buildings printed on them. Just a thought. Or there is the road strip that GW do, it's not brilliant but will do the job if you fix it to something firm.

Don't know if this is what your looking for but it's a broken asphalt style surface that you can place buildings on.

Hi, I really love the way those Zuzzys look. Do you know if there's a European Retailer? I think it would cost a fortune to have it shipped from the US...

Zuzzy mats are nice, but that is not what i am looking for.
and i have looked at the learning center play mats, they are SO CLOSE to what i want, but not even close to the proper 28mm scale. roads are either 9 inches wide, or 3 inches wide, and many times the street layout is windy and silly, perfect for a kid zooming his hotwheels around on, but not so good for an actual urban or even suburban layout.

is SO CLOSE to what i want. but i feel at $52 i can get EXACTLY what i want for that price. i dont mind spending the money. but spending the money, only to have to do more work on it anyway, i may as well build it from scratch for half the price.

Games workshop did one a few years ago.  I will post a picture later.

There might be another way, you will have to do a bit of work, and that would be to use roofing felt, or whatever they call it in the States. Its a nice black grey, with a rough surface and cuts pretty well, and looks very effective.

Yeah great if you want to be covered in tar and bitumen, roofing felt is a no no.

I have some of that sturdy vinyl road.  It is a straight length, but it is easily cut at an angle to form corners and crossroads.  I didn't think that it was still available.  Good find.  Handy, too, if you just want a modern/scifi straight road for a game.  Luckily GW forgot to put any skulls on it..............  :D

There is also a shed load of downloadable roads and pavements on a few card model sites.  8)
