Arkham Horror dice set review
« on: 01 November 2011, 10:20:06 AM »
Bought a pack of the Q-Workshop "Arkham Horror dice set" to spice up my Arkham Horror and Strange Aeons sessions.
Really nice set of dice, though not the cheapest kind. Still if you only need a couple these are great.

Yep, more look, quality and size rather  than something revolutionary. They are still regular D6...

I got the CoC set when it first came out on ebay for £0.99 which was a bargin, but I found them to be a touch "light". I like heavy dice as they give you the mpression they will lats....

They look like they're printed on, not engraved.  Not likely to last all that long if that's the case.

We make engraved dice and they are certainly durable. However, we've recently got a new machine that prints directly on to the dice and this provides an extremely durable finish. Certainly printed dice used to wear quickly but this is not the case now if the right machinery is used.

I don't know how these are printed - they are not our product - but being printed doesn't necessarily make them vulnerable to loss of image.

Q workshop usually makes engraved dice so they should be engraved I think.
Their call of Cthulhu dice were engraved at least.

If you look closely they look engraved, thought about buying them awhile back but they are a bit on the dear side.

I agree - the Q-Workshop Call of Cthulhu dice are far too light. These Arkham Horror dice, however, are larger and heavier than the six-sided dice that come with the CoC set. They're of a decent size and weight - I'd say they're on par with standard six-sided dice.

Surprised by the size of these.  I always use 8mm dice for Arkham Horror, as there's generally so much stuff scattered about the table, not to mention to many dice required at times (I think my record roll was 14), that there's just no room to be rolling standard-sized D6s without leaving a swath of destruction across the board!

That said, they do look nice.  Just can't see using them effectively in a game of Arkham Horror.
