Ice Station Zebra

I've been thinking about a skirmish style game based on the film (not the book) Ice Station Zebra:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Station_Zebra_(film)

I'm a bit stuck for 28mm figures for the US Marines and the Soviet Paras though, both in Arctic kit i.e. parkas, one piece snow camouflage jumpsuits etc.

Any ideas?

Jim

You will be pleased to hear that there is a company that has just started to produce a range of figures for exactly this type of scenario. :)  I saw them advertised on TMP about a month or so ago.Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of then manufacturer.
I'll go and have a look on TMP and see if I can find the link.Don't go anywhere! :)

Found them... Regiment Games in the States:

Unfotunately they don't appear to be ready yet though. Apparently they should have been ready for Historicon (not sure when that was).

Can't help on the park suited Americans, but how about Afghan campaign figures for the Russians ?

We opted for a 1920s setting and went with "Ice Station Wildebeest" using a variety of Copplestone Back of Beyond figures, plus penguins.

Mongrel miniatures has some Soviets in greatcoats etc that would be ideal

http://www.mongrelminis.co.uk/soviet.htm

HLBS has some inter war Brits etc in snow gear plus trappers some which might fit too

Thanks,

Looks like Regiment Games have the same idea. The figures are spot on   It's a shame they're across the pond as I don't fancy the postage even with a weak $. I wonder if anyone will pick them up over here?

I thought of using the Mongrel Soviets too a a fall back. Nice figures.

Incidentally, I'm really surprised that TAG or Mongrel haven't done a Arctic Warfare RM cadre and matching Soviet winter warfare packs? There must be demand for both out there?

Cheers

Blimey, I don't remember all that from the film!

I do love those old cinema promo posters - I used to stare longingly at them as a kid, wishing they would hurry up & appear at the local fleapit

Another alternative would be to do a WW2 version with Soviet Paras and a German U Boat crew searching for a crashed British or US plane with secret documents or whatever. Or perhaps a prototype V3 rocket / secret weapon / jet  aircraft do dah.

There has been talk of doing Brits and even swedes in winter gear, it is worth checking out MOFO sold by Gripping Beast, they have Brits for the Falklands which are in mixed winter gear

'I don't care how you do it - but (banging the table) GET ME THERE!'

Great line. Great music. Great sub shots. Great movie. Must get it on dvd

Another famous quote I love:

'The Russians put our camera made by our German scientists and your film made by your German scientists into their satellite made by their German scientists.'

And:

'We operate on first name terms here... My first name is Captain.'

Ah, they don't make them like that any more...

Some fantastic quotes there!

I must watch it again ASAP!

I wonder if it's feasible to game it as a VSF/Pulp version. There should be enough in the Copplestone & similar ranges to cover it.

Hmmm.........
