Heavy Metal - Reaper CAV Dictator Battlemech miniature
« on: November 02, 2011, 01:59:01 AM »
Not sure if posting battlemech pics is ok or not so please let me know if I have erred :)

Here is a Reaper CAV Dictator battlemech in desert camo.

Gun barrels were drilled out and Vallejo paints used throughout.

Fighting Piranha decals were used to add some visual interest.

These are fun to build and paint, being a little bigger in scale to the Iron Wind Metals Battletech range.

Very nicely painted, and there's no problems posting Battletech stuff here.

Woooo!  It's good to see Reaper's CAV line getting some love!

I love the Dictator CAV, it was my first non-GW sci-fi figure, yea many years ago.

Just out of interest, how high is it?

Approximately 50mm (2") high.

I used a third party plastic base instead of the supplied hex base.

Got a few more of these nice little miniatures including the Dictator II. I primarily build 1:72 armour and aircraft kits, but as I am gaming a bit more now, my interest in miniatures has sparked again. I found a box full of Battletech miniatures deep in the dusty recesses of my stash cupboard, (probably close to 150) including the unseen miniatures from the mid 80's

Battletech is a great universe ! I also bought a starter kit a few months ago. I also bought a big amount of Heroscape tiles to make the hexs map in 3d. I started to convert and paint the plastic figures included in the starter set  ;)

I created lead bases (with a wood mold) so my plastic figures weights like heavy metal ones  lol

Reaper mechs are really cool, and yours is really well painted  ;)

Very nice job on the Dictator. It's a shame CAV didn't get more attention. I played it for the first time at GenCon 2000, and always thought it was a great game.

How do the rules play for it? A friend of mine, Torben (Phoenikuz here at LAF), has done some mecha rules:

and it'd be interesting to compare them.

I really liked it for a long time.  It's still a good game, and you can get the rulebooks dirt-cheap now.

They are rather nice :)

I picked up the new boxed set a month back and the figures are not too bad with some clean-up.

Below is from the earlier boxed set. One of the plastic "unseens", in this case a 10th Lyran Guard Thunderbolt. I think this was painted about 20 years ago now.

and a white metal Warhammer, painted about the same time. I ran a company of the 10th through a pretty extensive campaign way back in the day, along with a Merc company called "Mike's Marauders".

That looks fantastic, but my eye went right to the mold lines... If those were cleaned up better in your prep-stage, the model would look a lot better in my opinion.

I really like the decals, and the color scheme is excellent. Is this a one-off, or do you have more models planned?
