My first zombies
« on: November 03, 2011, 01:58:00 AM »
Some time ago we bought Nuts! by Two Hour Wargames, and after that we also purchased All Things Zombie, and it was instant love. We went on and got the other expansion sets for it, and are getting ready for a small zombie campaign.
Currently we are working on several large projects, WWII, Warhammer Village for Mordheim and a Old West town. During all this, I decided that I wanted to play some zombie games, and naturally, being our gaming group, this very fast developed to a much larger campaign setting, with grand plans for this and that.
However, I didnt have much zombie miniatures, but started to scrounge up what ever I had, found some spare miniatures in my Trade Pile, and I also realised that I had bought a box of Wargames Factory zombies, that I really really didnt like. I also had a Games Workshop Undead Battalion Box laying around, to be used as bits for various different small projects. I also managed to get a few WWII plastic zombies, some heads and other parts from the WWII Warlords Tommies and Germans, wich turned out to be a great source for zombie related stuff.
So I started to paint a few, and realised that it was seriously great fun! I also have to admit that I then went on a shoppig spree, vacumcleaning my favourite miniatures vendors, and also have made a few really good trades here on LAF, wich I hope will yield many hours of great hobby time. I havent really been painting many figures the past 10 years or so, mainly building terrain and getting my figures painted via commission, but, this got me back in to some miniature painting. I will be the first to admit that the figures are not the best painted miniatures around, but hopefully they will be at least what we affectionatly call tabletop standard.

I have opted to make batches of six zombies, and paint them six and six, this due to the fact that in All Things Zombie they spawn primarely as 1D6 at the time. This also means that I can keep painting other things in the mean time, like furniture, gear, supplies and whatnots for the other larger projects that we are working on.

With more to be painted... patiently waiting for their turn in the line.

Hehe, yeah I noticed. After the first one was painted, I really turned our hobby room upside down, to find every zombie available, and as I said earlier, other figures as well, anything that could pass for a zombie really :)

Shake your moneymaker!

Reaper stripper zombie with four other ones in the background, also newly painted. I have realised that this will take time. 13 zombies done and ready for gaming, and its sort of like a drop in the ocean hehe.

Thank you gentlemen. I must confess to one thing, I have been buying a lot of zombies the past few days. Initially I just used what I had, converiting a few, wich was great fun, I even got my fiancé involved and she started to convert a zombie of her own, with this in mind, I got to say its a great victory.
However, the better quality miniatures are much more fun to paint, and its not worth it in my mind, to use the crap zombies even as "fillers", I rather spend some money and get the better looking metal zombies. It might be the fact that the crap plastic zombies require much more skill to paint, and it is absolutely easier to paint the better quality figures, and since I am not really a ace when it comes to miniature painting, the plastic crap zombies are definitely a source for unwanted aggrevation, but, I am glad that I painted a few, especially since the conversions where fun to make.
