VZ-1 Flying Platform

I got one of these off ebay, from the "Amazing Weapons" range. It's a fit to the box scale range, with most of it being too small, but the flying platform is 1/50 scale.
Now I know this wasn't built until the early 50's, but Hiller developped the concept in the late 40's, so it isn't much of a stress to incorporate it in an alternative WW2 setting. Would make a great scout or also useful for guard top secret facilities. Now to locate a suitable figure to serve as the pilot.

It's hard plastic, with good details. The pilot is a bit rubbish, but then I was always going to replace him.

See wikipedia for some info on the actual platform: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiller_Flying_Platform

The amazing weapons range is a Japanese toy range produced by Takara (ebay has loads of them) and that features amazing weapons of the WW2 era and thereabout. Lots of weird planes and tanks too, but too small for 28mm.

The platform however is 1/50 scale and right for 28mm (for instance the Bolt Action models are 1/56th scale and the Tamiya kits are 1/48, 1/50 falls right in between and is the same scale as corgi). I will see if I can make a pic next to some minis.

Some quick size comparisons:

Left to right: BAM, Foundry, Pulp, the platform, amazon, copplestone, westwind, black tree designs:

Some very blurry pics with various 28mm figures on the platform:

- Bolt Action Miniatures German officer:

- Artizan Thrilling Tales pilot:

- Pulp Figures hooded minion:

The platform comes in two versions btw, the military one and a yellow cab one.

They have the P1000 Ratte . I had no idea someone made toys of it (trust Takara to do it). Not quite the Baneblade size I need for my Pulp Flames of War army, but a good model nevertheless.

Well, they suddenly seem to be vanishing from Ebay fast. Even got outbid on one by a fellow forum member last night...
(No worries, I found some more...)

Should be plenty on there again in a few days. 8)

No harm, I put in a very low bid anyway and I bought some others since. I just thought it was amusing.

Ummm, why buy it, that contraption can be easily scratchbuilt, I dare say. A slightly larger version could have a computer power supply fan as it's main body.
