Got around to painting up some swatches of the colours I use for drybrushing up wood.



basically start with a black prime, then a heavy drybrush of the dark brown followed by lighter and lighter progressively lighter tones. The last grey colour is what really makes the wood look like it's been outside in the sun for years.

Thanks for the run down of the wood colours that you used, its basically the same as I use when painting old distressed wood. However, your other buildings would be great to hear about as well.

I use, and I get about the same results as the OP; GW Codex Grey and Fortress Gray, I also like the Reaper lighter greys. The trick that I have found to be a easy way to get good distressed wood colour, is to use various khakis and such before the greys, also adding some green might help.

Hey nice work overall. I really love the water tower. Even though I don't have a need for a water tower in the terrain stuff I want to build, I certainly can use a good tutorial for "weather beaten" wood. So thanks for sharing all the tips and tricks in this build of yours.

Thanks for the tip.  The khakis make sense; the green I wouldn't have thought of.  Great stuff!  Now to experiment...
