Worth the wait... Super Dungeon Explore!
« on: November 10, 2011, 11:11:55 PM »
Well, after many many moons of waiting Super Dungeon Explore finally came to teh UK this week. I recieved my copy today, and yes, Christmas HAS come early. I honestly cant remember the last time i was so blown away by a simple boxed game. The quality is as good if not better, than a GW boxed game, and the sheer quantity of miniatures is staggering!

I have so far only opened one small bag of models, the two troll/ogres, and i am staggered by just how good they are! I am also amazed at how they have been produced. No sprues.... Every single mini comes in bits pre clipped ready to assemble. And the plastic is a tad weird. Hard and heavy! Not resin, but just NOT like the usual games manufacturers plastic...

I wont go into the realms of what the game is like, and it may be quite some time before we play a game, but so far, for the princley sum of £52 you get more mini's than you can shake a stick at and the quality is very very high. Not only are the sculpts superb, but the actual castings are very good as well, minimal mold lines and no flash.

Here are a couple of very quick phone shots to give a you an idea....

Very quick update:

I checked my two Troll Ogres this morning before i left for work and found something VERY surprising..... Liquid poly cement hasnt held them together!

I have never come across plastic figures that good old Humbrol Liquid Poly cant hold! Ive been using the stuff since the 70's and its alwasy been with me like S&M scalpels....

So, anybody got any ideas as to WHY id doesnt hold the figures together?
Super glue does, as i re glued the joints quickly.... but looking at the peices where the glue didnt hold, it looks as if liquid poly didnt 'melt' any of the SDe plastic...

I know i said they 'felt' different when i opened the box, so now i know they ARE different! Or is it just me.....

I hope someone else will recieve their copy very soon so we can get a scond opinion....

Odd....

You'd have encountered the same problem with Mongoose' Starship Troopers minis.  Polystyrene cement doesn't work with every type of polystyrene, particularly not with some stuff called ABS, which some plastic model companies use because it takes sharper detail.  The usual solution is to use superglue instead.
Back from the dead, almost.

Well the space hulk models never stuck properly with poly mate.  I had to use super glue....maybe they used the same plastic?

I want to paint that troll!

Warlord have it in their soda pop line.

Also seem to have extra figures

The 'extra' figures are just metal versions of the figures that are in the set,  or should i say some of them.... and have been around for ages....

Maelstrom have it also, and Wayland and Boardgame guru...

So shop around, as Warlord are full RRP type of guys...
all of the above are a lot cheaper...

Oh, Colonel, what have you done?
Those figures are bloody lovely!
 :-* :-* :-*

I saw this game previewed a couple of times, along with the miniature range and was trying to resist......it is getting more difficult when you go about posting photos like this!

The miniatures for this range look superb and appeal to my sense of the absurd, and make me chuckle every time I see them. they are the sort of thing that I normally buy on impulse and never get around to painting.
I know that, but it does not stop me buying things!

I must admit I will be watching to see what else is in the box.
If I then feel the need to spend my pennies on it, I will now have you to blame.
You bad man!  ;)

Damn, damn, damn...
