Siam 1860
« on: November 26, 2011, 06:38:38 PM »
Any suggestions for books (or even films or websites) with decent costume references for 1860s Siam?
Also terrain/buildings etc.

The only movie I know about Siam! There must be some kind of battle scene in the movie.

Check out the Foundry Ian Heath etc books, I'm pretty sure there's one that covers it.

Thank you on that one, there is and it's on special.

Now any others? Preferably with a bit of colour?

There are numerous scenes in 'Anna and the King' that show the uniforms of both Siam and Burmese troops. Don't know how accurate they are but they are nice and collerful. There is a version of the 'King and I' musical with Yul Brenner, but I can't remember if there are any scenes of the millitary.

Just to let you know we looked at "Anna & the King" - it does have a skirmish in it. Also got a copy of the Heath Book whislt it was on special.

This was the reason for our query:

Glynis has just costumed this performance, cast of 75 so 81 costumes in total.

There were palace guards but not on these photos.
