Where to get 7tv miniatures?
« on: November 27, 2011, 10:39:16 PM »
Ok so most of us seem to have been inspired by BLAM and 7tv. I was just wondering where we could be 'suitable' miniatures?

I know of the excellent copplestone and artizan kiss kiss bang bang ranges and also crooked dices range. But where else can you get miniatures from the era?

More spy types, soldiers, etc etc?

Not quite ready to start this project yet- I'm just doing my research before I start it in the new year.

Cheers
Andy

I am not sure but Brigade games maybe?
I think you have covered the core ones though already.

The old Mongrel Miniatures ranges are good for cold war era Soldiers, now available from Newline Designs.

A wide variety of miniatures and manufacturers could be used.  Much depends on the type of cast you intend to build.  As you say the most obvious are Crooked Dice and the Copplestone/Artizan KKBB ranges.

A look through the Crooked Dice forum may be of some help too: http://www.crooked-dice.co.uk/forum/Blah.pl

Other Copplestone miniatures could be used, particularly the Future Wars and even some of the High Adventure or Back of Beyond ranges: http://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/

Black Cat Babes have some suitable figures and an interesting line in robots:
http://blackcatbases.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=437_614

CP Models have a few, particularly boiler-suited Sci-Fi minions:
http://www.cpmodelsminiatures.co.uk/CP%20MODELS%2028MM%20SCI-FI%20MINIATURES.htm

Gripping Beast MoFo troops are good for British Army types:
http://www.grippingbeast.com/shop.php?CatID=46

KillerBGames Geezers have 1970s British Police in and out of uniform, tooled-up villains and civilians:
http://killerbgames.com/index.php?cPath=1&osCsid=b96ef6440a8447c735454341d9b9b8f8

Foundry Streetviolence:

I also intend getting some Perry Ninja for minor conversion at some point: http://www.perry-miniatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=23_38&products_id=2337

It all depends what TV programme provides your inspiration, real or imagined.  I have an Egyptian cast: The Cairo League of Brothers, that uses a Copplestone armed archeologist, Artizan Thrilling Tales arabs and a couple of converted Foundry Darkest Africa and an unknown fantasy miniature.  Lots of potential manufacturers and I'm sure there are many more than those I have listed above that would be suitable.

Some of my latest cast members: The Darke

Foreground: Crooked Dice: Stephan Travers, Copplestone FW Suit with CD headswap and gun conversion, BCB Robot

2024 Lead Tally: Acq: 013 Ptd: 055  Total: +042
2023 Lead Tally: Acq: 560 Ptd: 056  Total: -504

Ohh, that Lost in Space robot looks a lot nicer under your paint than I'd expected from BCB's website, Overlord.

It's also worth mining the Black Tree Doctor Who range for 1960s/1970s civilians, as well as the superhero ranges - Herolix,  4-Color Superfigs (from Old Glory in the US) and Fighting 15's "Mutants and Madmen".

As well as KKBB, lots of the character minis in Artizan's "Thrilling Tales" range are useable.

For British soldiers, the Gripping Beast Mo-Fo Falklands war range is your best bet.  You could also try the Mongrel and Britannia Congo ranges for mercenaries.

EDIT  I forgot to mention Hasslefree.  Most of their minis are probably too modern for 7TV, but they can, at least, provide you with a full set of Meddling Kids and their dog.

Oh, and if Khurusan get their 28mm range back up, there are some very useful 1970s personalities there too.

Andy, I've been collecting figures from most of the ranges listed above for my games. I've been collecting 1:43 scale vehicles from ebay too. Before BLAM I was working on a 1950's special police unit for the Quatermass games and came up with Westwind's WWWII brits, just goes to show there's oodles of ranges out there you can use stuff from:

In addition to those mentioned and the old-Copplestone sculpts from Doug at EM-4 how about:

The Rezolution range of figures?

There are odd ones from across the range but the best ones look to be the APAC faction - check out the platforms.  ;)

Matakishi has better (close-ups on the figures) on his blog.  :)

Then there are everyone's favourite's the ubiquitous VOID VASA minis - useful as Evil Minions?
