Basing options For Skulldred?
« on: December 05, 2011, 02:57:34 PM »
Hi all,

I'm frantically trying to get a couple of warbands put together for Skulldred (Fantasy Skirmish Game)...and instead of using the square bases I use for my WFB forces I'd like to use the new rounded lip 30mm round bases.  I've even considering using some of the ones with precast "terrain" on them.  My question is....should all my figures be based on similar "terrain" or should it be by race or warband specific?  Ie. my dwarfs would be on rocky bases...my orcs on blasted wasteland bases... and my wood elves on forest path bases....or should they all be on more generic bases for all figures?

Whats your opinion?

Cheers,

Blue

Hey, Chris -

I'm putting my Skulldred figures on hex bases (for that old-timey feel), but I do everything else on 30mm "lipped" bases. I try very hard to differentiate warbands by using different base cover. Take a browse through the Fenris catalogue and you should find a plethora of good scenic bases for your warbands.

I think the ruined flagstone bases make excellent "dungeony" bases:

There are some nice precasts.
I have some from Antenociti, and have just placed my first order with Fenris.
Basing your troops per unit/race is a good idea, but in the end it's all about taste.
If you rather like 'em all on the same type, you could always give the sides of the base another colour to identify their unit/race.
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons,
for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Obey the 'rule of cool' - which can you make look best? Do that.

(I'm using hex bases on the figs that will do multiple duty and hopefully see some Skulldred action, and I always do my base decoration the same basic way because it's the only way I've had any success  ::))

My fantasy minis (which I'm also using for skulldred) are all based on 'standard' 25mm round bases. I base everything the same way (even my sci-fi stuff), so that if I wish I can mix them up without it looking odd. This I think will especially be an advantage in skulldred where there aren't any factions and you can mix any minis you like.
