Shapeways Spaceship
« on: 10 December 2011, 07:14:13 PM »
Thought I would post this for interest ...

I've been looking at the Shapeways site and there are some awesome designs there. Bought this one recently, hope you like it.

That's a fine looking ship. Looks like you had no problems painting whatever material you selected. Was it white, strong and flexible? My buddy has a Shapeways store, Arctic Skunk, where I got the Moonbuggies and comm towers for my Space:1999 project.

Michka: yes, it was the white flexible stuff.

No problems painting although it's worth noting that the material has a finely grained surface which would be very useful for some things, buildings for instance to give a bit of texture, but maybe not for items that need to be smooth. Maybe for smooth items you could start with a coat of varnish to smooth it out?

Also, the models are more complex and detailed, which can make painting them a challenge :)

I saw a post here with the Moonbuggies, (yours?), and I thought ... Awesome :) I may be getting a couple for another project.

Not seen Shapeways before, what else do they do?

Lots, designs are submitted by users and Shapeways print them out to order.

Yeah, those are mine. I've painted a number of Shapeways minis in white, strong and flexible. I always think the grainy surface will look bad when I'm painting it. Then after it's all done I forget it was ever an issue.

My next Shapeways order will be with Admiral Duck Sauce. He's got some not-Blakes 7 ships that must be mine.

I very nearly went for the Blakes 7 ship, it does look awesome.
