19th Indiana Iron Brigade
« on: December 19, 2011, 11:19:21 PM »
The 19th Indiana were part of what the confederates called "That d*mned
Black Hat brigade!" before everyone began calling them the "Iron
Brigade" because of their Iron resolve not to back down from the enemy
even when under intense fire or pressure.
The Iron Brigade is probably the most famous brigade in the Union army and therefore so are it's regiments and rightly so as they suffered the most casualties of any brigade in the Union army.
Basically this is the Unions Crème del la crème.
If you want more info on the Iron Brigade then simply type in Iron Brigade on the internet and you will be flooded!
Miniatures are from the fantastic Redoubt range of ACW and my personal favourite range. More pics on my blog for those interested.
Thanks for viewing! :)

A nice looking unit. The commander is certainly Scandinavian.  :o :o

Yes indeed, the population of the Mid Western states which is what the Iron Brigade was comprised of was overwhelmingly Scandinavian and German. ;)

Great job, only a minor quibble - the gaiters would not have survived long in the field but since a most of those fellows still have the hat pins that kept the brim up on the side (and there is no red ball to represent the 1st Corp) this would have been early in the war anyway.  Love them even though they aren't Wisconsin boys.

Yep, this is the parade ground early days version of the Iron Brigade, but the guys being hit by canister are closer to the later look of the brigade. I'll probably do a Sash and Saber version of them as well which features a mixed look.

Very nice work 8)

I really like the ACW period. Full of colourful units (both in uniforms and panache), using modern equipment and outdated Napoleonic style tactics...
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/
