Edit: Oh dear, I just read Prof's definition on this board. I'll be quiet.

Wrong analogy, mate :-) I didn't try to define Pulp but the board. For other "Pulp" stuff we have other boards. Or do you think it's better I'd add Westerns for the board, too

I may still do a pulp romance miniatures game just for kicks.  :D

Yeah, baby!

And you must rope Pete in, and force him to do a Gloire romance supplement too:

That'll learn 'im!  :)

You know, without my glasses on, that woman on the cover of that novel looks eerily like a mantis.

CONAN IS PULPS!

I suppose i could have my PCs unearth him at the next dig

When Conan does a push-up he is not pushing his body up from the earth... but pushing the earth away from his body!

Quick definition of pulp
« Reply #21 on: December 13, 2007, 01:31:03 PM »
According to fact monster Pulp fiction is:

fiction dealing with lurid or sensational subjects, often printed on rough, low-quality paper manufactured from wood pulp.

So to me that means any adventure that falls into the above and potentially in any genre.

Obviously you don't have to print your adventures on cheap wood pulp unless you want to.........

What do you think

You could also include films, movie serials and TV shows of the same kind of quality.

Anything with actors made from low quality wood pulp.

I generally don't like to link "pulp" to "low quality". For me Pulp is High Adventure, as REH defined it in Conan. A good story with lots of action, exotic places, beatiful women and, in general, low respect for physic laws

There are fantastic and professional stories out there that are pure pulp for me.

It's not the stories that are low quality, it's the production.

But there is also a spirit of pulp, it's that "all in" "adventure to the hilt" feeling.

There have some some adventure movies with superb production quality that have the mountains of pulp spirit, like the Indiana Jones and recent Mummy movies.

It has to be said that a lot of the time the stories are low quality, as well as the production.

Indeed. But not all. I meant that it was not a requirement of Pulp to be low quality

No, definitely not a requirement, but certainly an occupational hazard, given the very nature of the medium (lots of stories churned out quickly and cheaply).
