40K Grey Knights
« on: December 31, 2011, 12:47:47 PM »

I made myself a Christmas Gift this year. I bought a complete 1500 pts GK army from Simon Hutchinson. The models are really well painted and sealed with a gloss then matt varnish. Simon even attached them to the bases in a unique way...
Quote: “2 Steel pins are inserted to the feet of every figure and pinned to the bases. They are not glued to the bases however.  This is done on purpose as it allows you to remove the figures from the bases they come supplied with and mount them on others.
I like my figures to be based so they match my gaming table but I understand that not everyone's gaming table is the same.  So you want snow themed bases or Industrial pipes for bases, its no problem. Just pop the figures off the ones they are currently on and pin them to the ones you want. They are totally usable as they are and wont accidentally fall off their bases.”
I loved that feature! I am really strict when it comes to basing, for me it is the visual bon of an army. The army arrived on Christmas eve. Over the last week I rebased them, added some decals and repainted the force weapons. Call me happy!

The right GK is exactly as it came from Simon, the left one is rebased to fit my favourite table better, I also added the decal to the tabard, drilled the always important holes in the Bolters and repainted the lightning effect of the blade.

Same for the Terminator

Best of it all, Simon’s painting really fits to my older Grey Knight Kill Team! Only the GK with the Psycannon is painted by him. Works, eh?

So here is the first finished squad, rebased, repainted blades, decal attached and gun holes drilled.

If you want to see more of my GKs, see here: http://www.adpublishing.de/
cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - https://www.adpublishing.de

Those are very nice because they aren't painted in 'blue-steel'.  They look much more gritty and like crusaders the way you have painted them and that suits the Knightly image of the chapter.  Excellent stuff :).

Lovely work, yourself and Rabbitz both!
 :-*

I am really happy to find that someone of your reputation has no problem buying painted figures and reworking them to fit what you require.
I do this as well, although not usually with figures this well painted in the first place!

I like to buy painted figures and finish them off to a standard that I am happy with.
I prefer this method of letting someone else do all the boring stuff and then getting to do the interesting detail and finishing myself.

Lazy, I know, but it works for me.

Iagree with you so much regarding the basing too.
Pil recently painted some excellent Kislevites and Beastmen for me, top notch work, but I will be finishing the basing myself to match the rest of my collection.

They look great.  A good improvement on my originals.   I am just glad they went to someone who will get some enjoyment out if them

Very nice work by the both of you! I agree matching bases can go a long way into making models fit in with a force. The Grey Knights are not my favourite models at all but at least the paint jobs look great!

Painted some by myself to round-up the army.

Interceptor Knight with Incinerator and Purifier with Psicannon (what else).

It was a nice change to all the WW II armour I am normally painting, now I am back on track. The Soviet Technical manual needs some additional pics...

Worked some more on the Knights...
(while writing on the next Victory Decision supplements, Pacific war is in full swing!)

Grey Knight plastic model right out of the new Terminator box, I am planning to use him as a Grand Master or Paladin.

1st squad painted completely by me. Grey Knights Interceptors.

Great work (again)!
I like the effect on the helmet lenses a lot. It looks very menacing. How's this achieved? It seems it's just a small strip of light colour on a dark background...

Dark Blue, wash, dark blue with some white in it and finally just an almost white point as eyes.

Nice clean paint jobs. Reminds me I have a couple of small units worth of GK's stashed away for a rainy day.
