"Station 42" my spaceport project phase 1 complete
« on: January 03, 2012, 12:29:57 AM »
Well we finally managed to finish all the buildings for the spaceport project so it's now in a playable state.  We still have a lot to do not just on the spaceport but also on the surrounding locations but we feel that we can start using it for games.  We've already used some of the buildings in a few games.

There are a lot more pictures on my blog post:

For your Firefly project, yes?

The setting is generic but based heavily on ideas from Firefly and Cowboy BeBop.  These would work well for Firefly though.  We designed the buildings to work in any type of terrain and they work well for that.  I plan on building a number of walkways so that they could be used on a water world.  We are also making a number of extra buildings to be used as farms and research outpost in the surrounding area of the station.  My wife is working on a really neat farm house.  She made most of the buildings.  I do the space ships and a lot of the miniatures and extra bits.  I did make the two industrial platforms and the vehicles as well.  I also painted a couple of the buildings.

Extensive use of recycled materials. A man (and his wife) after my own heart!   :-* The meat trays as the tops are BRILLIANT, they keep the buildings tied together a theme. I love the flying car btw, was it a kit or scratchbuild?

Great "reuse".  The common textures really bring the overall station together.  I need to start saving those containers...

A water world is brilliant.  I never thought of that.  And I should have being a Traveller GM of many years.   :o

I'd love to see that when you do it.

Great build, looks very 'playable'!

As others have already said, using the same plastic trays throughout the project adds great consistency.

Nice work.

Fantastic work Nathan. After following your progress with it for the past few years has been great ad it's good to see it completed and yet again I find myself jealous of your lovely spaceships.

It really is very groovy seeing it like this - I've said it before, I'll probably say it again, you give me hope that the boxes of crap in my loft might one day magically transform themselves into some very cool scenery!
