I think the lack of responses shows not many people here don't use Tamiya for painting, at least for brush painting? Airbrushing might be another matter, but I assumed you meant for regular brushing? I hear Tamiya are not ideal for brush work?
I have used almost solely Vallejo Model Colour for my Germans. There are basically three colours that are good straight out of the tin:
830 German Field Grey is a good base colour
886 Green Grey is a good highlight
920 is good for the greener (reed green) look, suited for certain units, periods or theatres.
Then you have your various drab green-browns but I haven't looked into these yet. Basically German uniform colours tended to be all sorts and they faded quickly too, as usual.
Anyhow, it seems that Tamiya-Vallejo conversion charts suggest various Tamiya equivalents for these three paints, but I can't vouch for their accuracy. To me they looked a bit off when I checked them in the Tamiya site. So not much help there I am afraid? But you can make your mind up, when you check them, right? You can find an equivalency chart here:

But on the whole, I recommed the Vallejos for brush work, if you can get them.
