How does GW's IG Troops compare with Hasslefree?
« on: September 10, 2012, 10:01:45 AM »
I have some ideas I want to try in 28mm and the only GW I have in the house are Space Marines and Orks. So I ask if the IG are smaller than those, as some relatively available Plastic troops to start from would be nice.

The GW IG are bigger than Space Marines as far as I remember.

Kevs troopers might be slightly smaller, so will scale a little better. I think. Plus they just look great anyway.

The Imperial Guard troops (Cadians/Catachan) are about the same height as a standard Hasslefree male but much more heavily built and carrying much bigger weapons.

If you want a better proxy plastic miniature that blends in better size wise with Hasslefree, then maybe you could use some Em4 troops:

Alternatively, you could buy weapons from Hasslefree and add them to some of these:

Much cheaper than IG and better scaled with both Space Marines and Hasslefree Miniatures :) .

The Space Marines are about the same height as an IG miniature but the Space Marines should be much taller according to the storyline behind them.

Mantic's Corporation troops are smaller than both of GW's offerings, are plastic & decently detailed (& widely available). There will also be a fairly decent range, (including vehicles) though so far only infantry & support weapons are available.

Thanks guys, I am pondering some PA/Star War-isn sorts of conversions and am exploring what is available in plastics. And I am avoiding the any specific Star Wars figures.

But also trying to get a feeling of what bits in 28mm work with what. I have been a 15mm SF only sort guy for the last decade, but there has been talk around here of a skirmish/character driven character game as 28mm strength is customizable figures.

I have considered 54mm and 1/35th scale figures as well.

I vote for Mantic and Defiance games Panzer Grenadiers.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.
